About this Opportunity
Brunswick County Public Utilities is accepting applications for a GIS Analyst to join our GIS Team. The GIS Analyst is responsible for conducting advanced geospatial and statistical analysis of spatial data and producing maps expressing the results of the analytical processes using ESRI mapping products. Work includes:Serving as a highly technical resource for implementing geographic information system (GIS) processes that support business needs. Assisting with the coordination of the department’s GIS system, including developing the digital database, and overseeing installation of hardware and software systems. Providing training for GIS to other departmental staff. Performing responsible technical work in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the GIS databases and linkages to various databases. Reading and interpreting source documents, such as civil engineering plans, plot maps, and legal descriptions, and entering required data into the GIS. Creating and maintaining database files and inputting non-geographic data. Responding to inquiries regarding the GIS system, including determining needs of internal and external customers and responding to requests for digital data as requested. Assignments are made by the Logistics & Asset Management Coordinator or other supervisors with general review of finished work. The GIS Analyst reports to the Logistics & Asset Management Coordinator. This position is considered an ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEE POSITION under County policy and will be required to work to maintain essential operations during inclement weather, non-emergency closure, and/or closure due to a state of emergency/county disaster
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, or a related field, AND three (3) years of experience working with GIS software including experience with geoprocessing and data analysis using ESR - Is ArcGIS Desktop and Model. Builder; OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, and experience maintaining data in an ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise Geodatabase is required. Must possess strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be detail oriented with strong organizational skills. Must possess a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License. Preferred qualifications include:Familiarity with Python and TSQL. Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Experience with GPS Data Collection. GISP certification highly desirable. Physical Requirements. Must be physically able to operate personal computer, related office equipment, and motor vehicle. Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds). Tasks may require extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
