The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Inspect properties for landscape violations. Approve permitting for vegetation and tree removal. Inspect all new properties, including single family homes, prior to certificate of occupancy are issued in order to manage property owners' compliance with the City's landscape code(s), LD - Rs, and approved plans. Review site plans and assist in permit requests for landscape requirements. Inspect housing program related properties when landscaping is included. Answer questions concerning landscape code requirements and violations from the public. Maintain files and records. Prepare reports. Perform all functions and responsibilities according to the, Palm Beach County Code of Ethics and Florida State Statutes 112.313.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor's (BA/ BS) Degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field, Or two (2) years of related work experience, and an Associate's (AA) degree in horticulture or related field. International Society of Arboricultural (ISA) certification, or Landscape Inspectors Association (LIA) certification preferred. Knowledge of plant materials and South Florida vegetation. Knowledge of City Landscape Codes and policies. Knowledge of City's computerized building permit application tracking system. Ability to read landscape and site plans and building elevations and setbacks. Ability to conduct field inspection for tree survey verifications, landscape violations and inspections for the compliance with approved landscape plans. Ability to communicate in writing and orally. Skill in preparing landscape plans for small projects. Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, residents, and contractors. Requires demonstrated ability to utilize personal computer and office software such as MS Word, MS Excel and electronic mail. The abilities expected of all employees include being able to respond to supervision, guidance and direction of superiors in a positive, receptive manner and in accordance with stated policies, be appropriately groomed and attired so as to present a professional image in accordance with the organization's mission, goals, and policies; report for work promptly and properly prepared at the time and place required by the assignment or orders; notify the appropriate supervisor of intended absences in accordance with stated rules; conform with standards and rules regarding use of accrued time; demonstrate a polite, helpful and courteous manner when engaged in any activity with the public; operate and care for equipment to manufacturer's specifications and/or within the specified parameters; demonstrate an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the public and colleagues. A comparable combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
