AECOM is seeking a West Asset Management Intern to join the West Asset Management team in Falls Church, VA. The position will be remote with (at minimum) weekly in-person meet-ups with leadership. The employee will be linked to the headquarters for the group in Denver, CO. Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional. While this position will primarily work with the West Asset Management team, interns are assigned duties that will provide broad, well-rounded learning. This position could provide the opportunity for the intern to work on projects with other AECOM business lines including design, transportation, energy, sustainability, strategic planning, and business development. This position is expected to begin in May 2026. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:Conduct inventory and assessments of client facilities, learning to properly identify and classify building systems and components. Learn to identify and describe deficiencies, ranging from concerns to critical issues, and offer recommendations for correction in technical detail for future project planning and cost estimation. Utilize mobile tablets with built-in cameras to document building system components and equipment during assessments. Perform quality assurance procedures on self-originated work, such as data and reports. Collaborate with peers by reviewing their work and actively participating in post-project reviews. Work under direct supervision, following instructions and established practices. Adhere strictly to AECOM’s safety policies. Research current asset management-related topics at local, State, and Federal levels. Assist with other duties assigned by senior staff and/or Project Managers. This position will involve planning and project development activities for asset management projects under the supervision of more senior staff. Department Description. The US West Asset Management group consists of 18 multi-disciplinary team members operating within offices or remotely from the east to the west coast. We frequently team with many other departments and business lines within the larger AECOM. One of our main service offerings is asset advisory services, which enables organizations to have effective capital and operations and maintenance (O&M) planning strategies for dealing with maintenance, repair and replacement of their assets and infrastructure to enable them to achieve their goals. We believe the client must have critical asset data that provides sound information from which they can make accurate, credible and defensible investment decisions. This includes having the capability to predict the cost, timing, impact and alternatives of identified needs. Job Description Details. The internship role includes learning and advancing skills to support our wide-ranging projects. Activities include determining efficient ways to collect data across all facility types, customizing the technology to support different scopes of work, testing and deployment of in-house designed software, and performing facility condition assessments in multidisciplinary teams for various building components. These components include structural, civil, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems. The internship position will also support data management, analysis, and report preparation. The ideal candidates will be willing and able to learn new skills and methods on challenging field and office assignments in a collaborative, supportive, positive team environment. The candidate will gain experience through learning on the job and participating in development opportunities enabling professional growth and advancements. Qualifications. Minimum Requirements:Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Energy/ Sustainability, Architecture, Planning, GIS, Data Analytics, Urban Studies, or a similar field and must have completed at least one year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the master’s degree are eligible to apply. Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship. Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review. Ability to pass background checks to work on school grounds. Preferred Qualifications:Proficient in Adobe Illustrator. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to proficiently communicate both internally and externally to build collaborative relationships. Presentation skills to synthesize data and research into compelling reports and graphics. Knowledge of using GIS for spatial analysis. Knowledge in developing and presenting illustrative reports and graphics utilizing Adobe CS or other graphics software packages.
