Include managing the law library special collections and archives; batch loading and correcting MARC bibliographic records; managing collections and performing routine bibliographic and authority record maintenance in the integrated library system (ILS); and managing withdrawals including the print and electronic collections. The librarian also trains and supervises staff and student employees engaged in loose-leaf filing, stacks management (including shifting and shelf maintenance), and other collection-related projects. Additional duties include creating and updating procedural documentation, managing complex collection initiatives, providing statistical reports to the Library Director, and completing special projects and other duties as assigned. Responsibilities Collections management Develop, document, and administer policies, workflows, and procedures including ordering, cataloging, processing, and weeding of library material. Review incoming serial titles for changes in format, content, quality, price, new components, compare to available resources, and make recommendations as to the retention, cancellation, and withdrawal of material. Execute and manage complex collection assessment strategies including collection analysis, cancellations, shifting, and weeding. Metadata and Catalog Management Collaborate with the Systems and E-Resources Librarian to maintain and upgrade the Integrated Library System (ILS); ensure the accuracy of information in the database; extract data; and provide access to electronic resources. Catalog and process monographs, serials, integrating resources, and accompanying materials. Create and adjust call numbers of print material according to Library of Congress Classification. Management and Supervision Design and oversee complex workflow management systems for materials processing, collection maintenance, and space optimization initiatives Assist with hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating library assistants and student employees. Train and supervise looseleaf filing, stacks management, and collection related projects such as shifting and weeding. Required Qualifications MLS from an ALA-accredited institution or an equivalent relevant advanced degree. Five years’ experience in a library working with an Integrated Library System (preferably Innovative Interfaces or FOLIO). Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legal materials and publishing practices. Knowledge of cataloging practices, MARC format, and bibliographic data. Working knowledge of standard metadata formats. Strong attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment to conceptualize, communicate, coordinate and manage complex activities and projects. Strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse groups at all organizational levels, both inside and outside of the University. Commitment to expanding, improving, and promoting library services. Demonstrated writing skills to prepare clear, concise, and accurate documentation. Commitment to providing excellent customer service; ability to work flexibly and collaboratively in a team environment. Ability to independently prioritize tasks when faced with interruptions and fluctuating workload. Ability to use tact, diplomacy, and maintain confidentiality. Desired Qualifications Knowledge of copyright as it pertains to collection development and management. Supervisory experience in technical services (i.e. cataloging, acquisitions, serials) and/or directing and evaluation of work by staff or students preferred.
