Under general supervision, supervise, coordinate, oversee, lead, guide and perform a variety of repair, maintenance installation and related services involving heating, air conditioning, ventilation, pumps, and other similar facility mechanical operating systems.
Typical Duties
Supervise and oversee repair, maintenance and/or installation of systems within the specific area of assignment. Involves: Receive, assess, prioritize work assignments. Assign, review, monitor, assess and/or participate in repair, maintenance and/or installation activities. Identify parts, equipment, material and supply needs. Coordinate scheduling and work activities with other trades, vendors, contractors, departments and/or others. Review/assess/inspects work. Identify/recommend changes and/or improvements. Maintain files, records, reports and logs. Perform a variety of hands-on general to specific maintenance tasks. Involves: Utilize standard to specialized tools, materials and/or other equipment. Depending on area(s) of assignment, may change filters, balance air or water flow, maintain pumps, repair/replace valves, pipes, motors and/or other items. Maintain bar screens, industrial compressors, blowers, oxygen production units, clarifier units, digesters, sludge drags, chain sprockets, grit collectors and other units required in treatment of water or wastewater. Troubleshoot, perform routine, preventative or emergency repair of commercial and industrial motor controls, pneumatic controls, plumbing and/or other items. Troubleshoot and identify on-going, emergency situation or regularly scheduled preventative maintenance issues. Undertake/perform/identify required repair, maintenance and other work needs. Review, evaluate and assess work undertaken. Recommend techniques, supplies, materials and/or suggestions to assist staff and contractors. Identify and provide staff training. Provide similar maintenance of other types of treatment systems as directed. Function as a lead worker. Involves: As authorized/assigned, may direct the work of others, including, but not limited to, assign work, delegate, review, inspect or accept work completed. Guide task performance. Train and develop employees. Prepare employees' performance appraisals. Recall employees to work in emergencies. Resolve complaints. Recommend disciplinary action, vacation time approve and merit pay. Perform related duties as required. Involves: Perform duties of subordinate personnel or others as necessary to ensure continuity of operations during absences. Interact with federal, state and local officials, supervisors, contractors, other departments, coworkers or the general public.
