This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Public Safety Support Division of the Police Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. The primary purpose of this classification is to provide basic fingerprint identification and/or photographic support services. The Police Identification Technician I is a technical classification responsible for equipment, data entry, and document management skills, knowledge, and abilities related to the assigned job functions. Within this classification, differentiation occurs with respect to the level of technical expertise required, since, in addition to the general responsibilities, specialized knowledge of fingerprint identification or photography may be required. Essential job functions may include: taking fingerprints and palm prints using appropriate equipment and techniques; acquiring fingerprint images from AFIS or other databases and verifying the accuracy of search results; examining fingerprint images and assigning the appropriate fingerprint-pattern classification; and comparing fingerprints of known subjects with fingerprint records to identify matches. The photography specialty includes producing mug-shots, portraits, and other in-house photos; maintaining a digital mug-shot archive; and operating film-processing equipment. Both specialties include responsibility for performing clerical tasks, such as completing standardized forms and reports and filing, sorting, typing, and exchanging confidential information with other law-enforcement personnel. Work products are reviewed by an immediate supervisor for overall quality, accuracy, and adherence to Departmental policies and procedures. VETERANS PREFERENCE - Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. To receive preference, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge from the United States military service (Department of Defense Form DD 214 or NGB Form 22) prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement. JOB REQUIREMENTS - Knowledge of fingerprinting techniques (depending on assignment). Knowledge of photography technology and techniques (depending on assignment). Ability to record, organize, and work accurately with large amounts of information. Ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to operate standard office equipment.
