The City of Boulder is looking to fill a Traffic Signs and Marketing Maintenance Tech role. We are looking for candidates with skill sets that fit either those of the level I or Level II position. Under general supervision, the Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician participates in a work group and performs installation, maintenance, and repair work related to all aspects of signs and pavement markings. This position also inspects similar work performed by contractors. The hiring range for these positions are as follows, commensurate with experience: Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician I - $23.58 - 34.19 Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician II - $25.93 – 37.60 Job Description:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assists the work group in maintaining adequate inventories of signing and pavement marking materials and supplies and fabricates traffic signs using sign fabrication software, materials, equipment, and machinery. Installs and removes traffic signs, delineators, and posts as directed by work orders. Responds to scheduled and unscheduled sign maintenance requests as needed, that includes replacing, straightening, and cleaning signs, and trimming of vegetation. Communicates directly with Utility companies to locate underground utilities prior to sign installation. Installs and maintains preformed pavement markings according to Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and City standards. Establishes safe and appropriate work zones while performing work in the right-of-way. Assists, and in the absence of the Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Lead Technician, coordinates, monitors, and inspects contracted installation or maintenance and repair work related to all aspects of signs and pavement markings. Assists the work group in the field layout of proposed installations or modifications as detailed on plans. Identifies problems and brings them to the attention of the Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Lead Technician or the Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Supervisor. Documents all work performed appropriately within the City’s asset management system. Assumes responsibility and accountability for their final work product. Maintains accurate records of work performed and materials used within the City’s asset management system. Assists the Traffic Data Collection Technician III in conducting traffic studies using a variety of data collection devices. This data collection may include traffic volumes (24-hour summaries and peak hour turning movement counts), bicycle and pedestrian counts, hour delay, and any other traffic data collection deemed necessary by the Transportation Operations Engineer. Assists in placing and removing speed feedback trailers in locations determined by that program. Works safely and effectively in City right-of-way. Remains aware of and recognizes the appropriateness of contractor work zones in the City ROW. Notifies Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Supervisor of any issues observed. Shares information, provides and receives feedback with coworkers and supervisors. Interacts directly with the public. Participates in and provides instruction to incoming employees. May participate in and provide feedback during interviews and performance evaluations. Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the City. Knows and complies with all City and department policies and participates in professional trainings and development. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician I Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills. Ability to listen to and respect input, participate in work group conversations, and deal directly with issues that arise. Ability to give and receive verbal instructions. Ability to maintain accurate work records within the City’s asset management system. Ability to remain alert to conditions and events occurring in public right-of-way indicating anticipated or needed maintenance and repairs. Ability to take proper safety precautions to prevent accidents including use of all required safety equipment and following all safety regulations, policies, procedures and reporting requirements. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment. Reports all accidents and damage to city property. Ability to work courteously, respectfully and effectively with the public in difficult situations, both in person and on the telephone. Knowledge and previous experience using Windows based software, such as database, spreadsheet and word processing programs. Valid Driver's license and ability to maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record. Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history. Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician II In addition to the Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician I minimum qualifications: Ability to demonstrate experience with a variety of maintenance and equipment operations. Ability to plan work activities, and to give and receive verbal instructions. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician I Ability and desire to learn about the installation, removal and maintenance of traffic signs and markings. Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician II In addition to the Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician I preferred qualifications: IMSA Signs Technician Level II Certification. IMSA Pavement Markings Technician Level II Certification. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician I High School diploma or GED; or equivalent of two (2) years related experience may substitute for the education requirement only. No experience required. ATSSA Flagger Certification or new hires have ability to obtain within three (3) months. IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician or new hires have ability to obtain within one (1) year. IMSA Signs & Pavement Markings Technician Level I or equivalent within one (1) year Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Technician II High School diploma or GED; or equivalent of two (2) years related experience may substitute for the education requirement only. One (1) year of related experience. ATSSA Flagger Certification or new hires have ability to obtain within three (3) months. IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician Certification. IMSA Signs and Pavement Markings Technician Level I Certification. SUPERVISION Supervision Received: Traffic Signs and Markings Maintenance Supervisor Supervision Exercised: None
