The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office (HCAO) is seeking an Outreach and Engagement Specialist to support community engagement efforts and strengthen relationships with residents, community organizations, and system partners. This position plays a key role in advancing public engagement strategies, with diverse and underserved communities, and serves as a liaison for the HCAO at events, meetings, and community-focused initiatives. Find us here at upcoming career fairs! Location and hours:This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at various locations within Hennepin County, and remote as job duties require. The typical work hours will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. About the position type:This is a full-time, benefit earning position. This position is internally classified as an Administrative Assistant, Intermediate. In this position, you will: Plan, coordinate, and implement projects focused on public engagement activities with the goal of strengthening relationships with diverse communities and furthering initiatives that build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, other government entities, businesses, and the public. Facilitate internal and external event processes for staff and community engagement. Organize and facilitate community meetings and events, develop presentations and handouts, gather data and feedback, and create and edit content for emails and webpages. Set up online surveys, analyze data, maintain project websites, and prepare and respond to community questions. Assist in handling the Citizen Information phone and email and help respond to resident questions and inquiries about HCOA activities. Collaborate with employees across all departments to answer questions and disseminate information. Track inquiries from residents and work with HCAO staff, security, and law enforcement if inappropriate contact is made by a resident. Assist HCAO Leadership, monitoring initiatives with Criminal Justice Partners, elected officials and the community. Need to have:One of the following:Six years or more of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position. Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, or other field appropriate to the position and two years or more of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position. Nice to have: Experience in:Planning, coordinating, and implementing projects focused on public engagement activities with diverse and underserved communities. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships within and outside the organization. Gathering, analyzing, and presenting data or feedback to evaluate public engagement efforts and guide project decisions. Working in a public law office or court setting. Managing multiple projects while being responsive to immediate unexpected demands. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor communication based on audience and format. Familiarity with criminal legal system processes and the community resources that assist individuals navigating them. Ability to:Work with diverse communities and represent the HCAO in public-facing settings. Build and maintain positive working relationships with community members, staff, partners, and stakeholders. Communicate clearly and respectfully across a wide range of audiences and cultural backgrounds. Exercise sound judgment, maintain professionalism, and handle sensitive situations appropriately. Work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, public-facing environment.
