This is an hourly position that works up to 20 hours a week. Responsible for responding to student medical concerns and campus medical emergencies. Assist in general flow of the University Student Health Center and participate in on/off campus Health Promotion and Education Programs. SALARY INFORMATION:In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is $40.00. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University. REPORTS TO: Director of Operations for Health Services. RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:Identify, diagnose and treat responses to actual or potential health problems, health assessment, case finding, health teaching, counseling and prescription of therapeutic interventions. Record all patient visits through electronic medical record system. Determine priorities through a triage process and intervene to treat physical and psychological responses to changes in health and development status. Utilize the procedures and guidelines, which are developed in collaboration with the Health Service Director and according to standards of care. Refer students to Health Services health care providers and off campus resources when needed. Employ principles of teaching and learning theory to help clients develop decision-making skills in order to attain or maintain optimal levels of health. Participate in Continuing Education, workshops; update CPR/ AED for Health Care Professional Certification and seminars on issues relevant to college health nursing practice, as well as membership in professionally related organizations. Collaborate with the Director of Health Services, health care providers, nursing staff and the Student Affairs team to assess campus needs and plan for future development. Participate in activities on campus related to recruitment and advancement of students within the University. Engage in self-evaluation and peer review. Perform other job related duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, skills and abilities)Excellent assessment skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to function under pressure and independently. Ability to be organized and pay attention to detail. Maintain Professional Liability Insurance through NSO (Nursing Service Organization) at $1,000,000/$3,000,000. Proficient in ability to perform 12 Lead EKG’s Proficient in ability to perform phlebotomy and IV access. Computer literate. Maintain NY State DOH Infection Control Certification, Blood Borne Pathogen Certification and AHA (American Heart Association) CPR/ AED Certification. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Must be able to respond to medical emergencies throughout campus. Must be able to climb stairs (4 stories) and carry emergency medical equipment to emergency sites. Must be able to lift and bend to attend to needs of patients. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. EDUCATIONAL/ EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:New York State Nursing License with current registration. Minimum of three years of experience in acute care (preferably ICU or emergency room). Experience in primary care or office-based practices is preferred.
