The Assistant Dean of Student Services & Instructional Support is responsible for the overall leadership and administration of the Office of Student Services & Instructional Support and its programs for the College of Science, Engineering & Technology (COSET). The Assistant Dean is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering a full range of student services designed to enhance the educational, professional, and social experience of students. This position reports to the Dean. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:This is a senior administrative and student services leadership position requiring significant oversight experience in planning, coordinating, and delivering student and instructional support across the college. Essential Duties Summary Supervises assigned staff to maintain and institute programmatic improvements in the areas of recruitment, admissions, transfer, registration, retention, and student professional development. Supervises assigned staff to maintain classroom technology and any improvements as required by the university through the Office of Institutional Technology or as required by the Dean. Assures that policies and procedures pertaining to students are made available and followed. Resolves student problems, both academic and non-academic. Manages student petitions and grievances. Serves on college committees and university committees as requested. Establishes an effective quality assurance structure and process for student service programs. Serves as liaison to the TSU Registrar, Student Accessibility Services Office, Office of International Services, and other student-related services and offices to manage registration, advising, persistence, accommodations, international student issues, and all other student concerns. Plans, coordinates, and implements special academic programs, and special events. Oversee the College’s scholarship programs. Assists the Dean with formulating policies and implementing action plans for student services. Compiles information and prepares administrative reports. Participates in professional development for self and assures the participation of staff in professional development activities. Teaches at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. Other duties as assigned. % FTE 1.0 Hiring Range $125,918.89-$196,666.51 Education Doctoral degree (PhD.) in mathematics, a natural science, engineering, or a closely related COSET discipline from an accredited institution is required. Candidates must be eligible for immediate appointment at the rank of Associate Professor/ Full Professor with tenure. Required Licensing/ Certification N/ A Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: Policies, procedures, and practices in student services. Knowledge of basic office and financial processes and procedures. Skill in: Detail-oriented. Problem-solving and decision-making. Multitasking and time management. Writing documents. Both verbal and written communication. Work Experience Requires three or more years of experience with demonstrated excellence in student services/affairs at the college or university level. Requires a working knowledge of standard practices and procedures in higher education student services. Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system. Preferred: Specialized education/training in student services/affairs. Experience in student services for accredited programs. Working/ Environmental Conditions Routine office environment.
