MIXTURES SUPPORT TECHNICIAN (ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN III)

This position is accountable for aiding the Mixtures Control Unit in the areas of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) production and construction. Essential Functions Inspects Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) mixtures at the plant and job site. Informs supervisor of HMA and PCC production status and possible problem areas. Completes material test reports completely and accurately. Attends and passes required training courses. Performs duties in compliance with department safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience; OR six years of engineering experience. Certified in IDOT’s Mixture Aggregate Technician or Aggregate Technician, PCC I, and HMA I. Preferred Qualifications Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively interact with department engineers and technicians as well as consultants, producers and contractors. Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer software. Experience with CMMS and the QMP package. Conditions of Employment Valid driver’s license. Extensive district-wide travel of approximately 15,000 miles per year. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Successful completion of a background check. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Requires the ability to obtain PCC-II and HMA-II certifications within 12 months of hire.
