Pool Lifeguard (Part-Time, Seasonal)Parks & Recreation Department – Aquatics Division. Chris Lyle Aquatics Center. The Parks & Recreation Department is seeking attentive and responsible individuals to serve as Lifeguards at the Chris Lyle Aquatics Center. This role is vital to ensuring the safety of all guests by enforcing facility rules, monitoring aquatic activities, and responding quickly in emergency situations. This is a part-time, seasonal position reporting to the Aquatics Superintendent and is scheduled on an on-call/as-needed basis to support operational needs. Schedule:Varies – includes weekdays, weekends, mornings, evenings, and select holidays(Aquatics Division operates 7 days a week)Key Responsibilities:Monitor pool activities to ensure guest safety at all times. Enforce facility rules and safety standards. Respond to emergencies and provide appropriate care. Assist with maintaining a clean and safe aquatic environment. Must be available to attend and complete the mandatory 3-day Lifeguard Certification Course. Mandatory Certification Course Dates:Friday, May 22: 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM - Saturday, May 23: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM - Sunday, May 24: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM - Applicants must be available for all listed dates and times to be considered for hire. Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary. - Supervises and provides surveillance of the swimmers at all times. - Responds to EAP (Emergency Action Plans) protocols by performing rescues, administering first-aid and CPR/ O 2/ AED as needed. - Enforces pool rules and regulations; explains to pool users unsafe practices, to minimize injury and accidents in the pool. - Assists in locating missing children. - Performs daily facility tasks to maintain a neat and orderly appearance - Must maintain certifications for the duration of employment and uphold the standards and expectations. Attend and participate in monthly evaluations and training. - Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Must be at least 16 years of age. Must demonstrate the following to pass the required Swim Test: - Swim 50 yards with no rest using the front crawl or breaststroke technique. - Swim 50 yards with rescue tube. - Tread for 2 mins (1 minute with hands and 1 minute without) - Retrieve a 10 lb brick from the deepest area of the pool (12 ft)Must complete a 3-Day Certification in First Aid, CPR, and Starguard Lifeguard Training and meet objectives by the end of the 3rd day. (Applicants will be hired as a Pool Lifeguard PT “Trainee” until all training objectives are met. The “Trainee” position starts at 10% below the minimum of the pay grade.)Must be flexible regarding scheduling as it is based on operational demands (including weekend and holiday availability
