Duties and Responsibilities The City of Santa Clarita is committed to providing a challenging and meaningful work experience for college students. The City offers unique opportunities for students to gain hands-on and in-depth experience in a variety of disciplines related to local, regional, state, and federal government operations. We provide real world work assignments, which provide interns the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional City staff committed to teamwork and providing superior municipal services to the community of Santa Clarita. This internship will provide the opportunity for students to learn firsthand the dynamics of Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) in a local government setting and gain hands-on experience with resident engineers and project managers. This position is expected to work an average of 12-20 hours per week onsite (or in office). The anticipated duration of this internship is approximately 6 to 12 months, but it may end earlier or be extended depending on department needs. Salary $20.06 – $25.41, Undergraduate Level$26.78 – $32.13, Graduate Level. Duties and Responsibilities - Assists project managers with analysis and monitoring of project budgets and schedules - Conducts field investigations on various projects - Conducts research, data collection, and analysis - Prepares and presents reports and provides recommendations - Establishes positive working relationships with City employees, outside agencies, and the public - Maintains and organizes general administrative records Education and Experience If you are a current undergraduate student, graduate student, or a recent college graduate in the field of Engineering or Construction Management and are interested in gaining meaningful, hands-on work experience at the local government level, this may be the program for you. Knowledge and Abilities - General understanding of governmental organizations and municipal operations - Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of conveying information accurately, clearly, concisely, and effectively to a variety of audiences - Proficient in research techniques, survey methods, data collection, and analysis - Possesses strong organizational skills, adept at managing a heavy workload, prioritizing tasks, and optimizing time and resources efficiently; takes initiative to follow up with department staff to provide timely status updates - Excellent customer service skills - Basic knowledge of budget/financial analysis and management principles/procedures - An interest in the federal or state legislative process - Excellent presentation skills - Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain extensive and accurate records, ensuring all work is completed thoroughly and professionally - Ability to understand plans and specifications - Strong computer skills and experience with Office XP and Adobe Acrobat - Ability to foster effective working relationships with all levels of staff and the community - The ability to lift, drag, and push files, paper, and documents weighing up to 25 pounds
