Student Electronics Technician

The Student Electronics Technician will assist in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation of AVL (Automated Vehicle Location), video surveillance, and communication systems on UGA buses and transit vehicles. The position supports the daily technical operations by helping to ensure equipment is functional, accurate, and properly documented. The technician will work closely with the supervisor and team to support diagnostics, inventory, and repairs. Work is hands-on and may involve time in the shop and in the field. All individuals selected for this position are required to undergo drug and alcohol testing in accordance with US Department of Transportation regulations. Relevant/ Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position Enrollment in electronics, engineering, computer science, or related technical field Basic understanding of electronics principles and tools Previous experience with wiring, soldering, or working on vehicle systems is a plus Familiarity with Windows-based programs and hardware setup/troubleshooting Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Physical Demands Lift up to 50 pounds Work in tight or elevated spaces on buses and in maintenance areas Use of hand tools and electronic testing equipment Outdoor work in varying weather conditions Driving as needed for job duties Have minimum 5 hours work availability during morning hours per week.
