About the Team and Role:We are looking for a Distributed Systems Engineer to join our Cloud Security Engineering team in Austin, TX. In this role, you will develop and build highly available, fault-tolerant distributed systems that power critical security capabilities such as identity, access control, data protection, and policy enforcement across eBay’s cloud infrastructure. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving hard systems problems, care deeply about reliability and correctness, and want their work to have a direct impact on platform trust and security at global scale. What you will accomplish: Design, build, and operate cloud-scale distributed security services with a focus on high availability, scalability, and resilience. Architect systems that handle failures gracefully across regions, services, and dependencies. Develop backend services and APIs that operate optimally under high efficiency and low-latency requirements. Implement strong observability practices, including monitoring, alerting, and automated remediation. Leverage AI-assisted tools and techniques to improve system reliability, operational efficiency, and developer productivity. Participate in design reviews and incident postmortems, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence. Contribute to secure-by-design engineering practices, ensuring systems are robust against misuse and attack. What you will bring: At least 5 years of software engineering experience focusing on distributed systems. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent experience. Proven experience designing systems using microservices, event-driven architectures, or component-based architectures. Strong programming skills in Java and/or Go and solid understanding of distributed systems fundamentals, including consensus, consistency models, leader election, replication, and fault tolerance. Hands-on experience with datastores (SQL and NoSQL) and distributed messaging systems. Experience building security or infrastructure platforms (e.g., IAM, policy engines, secrets management, encryption services). Familiarity with Zero Trust architectures and modern cloud security patterns, experience with Kubernetes, service meshes, or cloud-native networking and any exposure to compliance-aware systems requiring auditability and traceability would be preferred.#LI-BB 1 Additional Details. The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:$98,000 - $173,600
