The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates 13 correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of the DOC is to protect the citizens of the commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure, and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior. The Department of Corrections is seeking applicants for an Administrative Specialist at Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex. This position will provide professional support to the Procedures Office within the institution. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Repair, search, and maintain library books that are assigned to inmates in restricted housing. Check in or out library books to inmates in restricted housing weekly. Deliver library books to inmates in restrictive housing weekly. Issue fines and disciplinary reports to inmates in restrictive housing and general population that damage or lose library books. Supervise inmates in the inmate library and academic wing on two late days throughout the week and weekends. Provide notary services and photocopying services to inmate population in library. Coordinate the Inmate Library Clubs. In absence of librarian, perform all duties as librarian. Run reports as needed for the deputy warden of programs. Additional duties as assigned by supervisor. Minimum Requirements EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of professional, administrative, or business experience. Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE Working Conditions Incumbents working in this job title primarily perform duties in an office setting. Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18 A.111.
