The Security Operations Manager will lead and manage the Security Operations team in maintaining and enhancing the University’s security operations. This position supports the University’s cybersecurity initiatives by overseeing the SOC, managing incident response, and ensuring the effectiveness of security monitoring and detection tools. The Security Operations Manager is responsible for managing day-to-day security activities, such as firewall rule adjustments, eDiscovery, providing logs to external requestors, and other essential security functions. This role contributes to the department’s objective by maintaining robust security measures and supporting the high quality and reliability of services offered by ITS and across the University. Position Type FullTime Type of Recruitment General Public Minimum Qualifications Education: Master’s degree in information technology or other related area or Bachelor’s degree with work related experience equivalent to a master’s degree in information technology or other related area. Extensive experience in cybersecurity, particularly in security operations, incident response, and SOC management. Proven experience managing distributed team personnel. Strong project leadership and management skills. In-depth knowledge of security monitoring and detection tools (e.g., SIEM, IDS/ IPS, EDR). Proficiency in incident response and handling. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders. High level of integrity and trustworthiness, with the confidence to represent the organization and security leadership professionally. Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and promote a positive enterprise-wide security culture. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proven written and oral communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with cloud security operations. Familiarity with security frameworks and standards (ISO 27001, NIST, CIS). Knowledge of state privacy laws. Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or SANS. Conditions of Employment This is a remote position, requiring a traditional 40-hour work week. Computer equipment will be supplied for remote work; high-speed internet is the responsibility of the employee. The equipment provided to staff with approved telework agreements enables them to deliver vital services to University faculty, staff, and students from remote locations. Many of our operations can and should continue as usual, even when the main physical campus is closed. Therefore, all division employees with an approved telework agreement are generally expected to work during official University closures. Should travel be required for this remote position, budgetary constraints may limit where the successful candidate can reside. In addition, existing payroll limitations on locations a remote employee may work from could limit the selection of the final candidate.
