The Literacy Specialist (LS) is an literacy instructional coach and literacy curriculum specialist whose major focus is development of literacy teacher content pedagogy. To wit:The LS will work as a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning in . The LS will provide professional development to build capacity in teachers\ literacy content pedagogy. The LS will disseminate evidence-based strategies in effective instruction for all learners. The LS will provide personalized support to teachers in implementing the district provided curriculum. The LS will seek out ways to grow personally in the learning sciences and instructional coaching. The LS will build capacity in teachers as astute practitioners and learners of each of their students\ learning processes. The LS will instructionally coach teachers, which may include modeling, planning, observing, as well as other instructional coaching duties. The LS will help monitor, evaluate, revise, and assess new and existing curriculum. The LS will collaborate on a frequent basis with the Building Principal to develop and sustain a high quality Literacy program. Essential Responsibilities:Support the vision and mission of Waukegan District 60through its three worthy targets, curriculum, instruction and assessment:Implement and monitor curriculum with fidelity; (2) provide timely instructional coaching to teachers;assist teachers in analyzing, maintaining and monitoring data that supports enhanced student achievementprovide timely interventions;conduct professional development training, work with professional development presenters to organize, prepare, and deliver sessions, and subsequently monitor the learning from the training for effectiveness;assist in recruiting/training teachers. Qualifications:Master\s degree preferred from an accredited college/university;Current Illinois Teaching Certificate;Must possess any Literacy AND Social Studies Endorsement;Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience;Experience in researched-based instructional practices; (6) Familiarity with Balanced Literacy required; (7) proficiency in multiple digital technology learning platforms and other office production software preferred;Fluency in Spanish is a plus. Collaborative Functions:Facilitate the intellectual professional development of teachers;Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators. Commit to using and communicating effective research and evidence based practices in learning;Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers; and. Develop and maintain Trust with all stakeholders. General Responsibilities:Provide Professional Development support of staff of district curriculum, instruction, assessments, and interventions in mathematics;Support staff in analyzing data;Support teachers in planning and designing instructional lessons. Support classroom motivation and management;Support teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with curriculum;Instruct and support teachers in curriculum related technologies. Manage time and schedule flexibility;Adhere to all district and building health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan and Building Crisis Plan;Understand that job responsibilities may vary related to each building\s needs; and. Perform other duties as ascribed by the K-8 Literacy/ Social Studies Coordinator. Compensation: Per teacher contract Salary Structure.
