Payroll Technician. The Planning and Finance Division is hiring an experienced Payroll Technician to join the accounting team. In this job, you will provide accounting and payroll processing support for Colorado Springs Utilities. You can work on a team, rotating various payroll tasks, processing bi-weekly payroll for all utility employees. Accurately compute and process wages and overtime, including federal and state tax withholdings, garnishments, child support orders, and benefit deductions; ensure timely deposits and payments related to retirements, terminations, and separations. Coordinate, calculate, and post payroll-related transactions to the appropriate general ledger and sub accounts to maintain financial accuracy Prepare, maintain, and audit annual and quarterly payroll reports, ensuring complete and accurate documentation of all payroll transactions. Reconcile payroll-related reports and accounts, including tax liabilities, retirement contributions, and third-party vendor accounts; investigate and resolve discrepancies. Recommend, develop, document, and implement improvements to payroll processing procedures to increase efficiency, ensure compliance, and reduce errors. Review and examine payroll documents and source data for accuracy and completeness; identify discrepancies, determine root causes, and correct out-of-balance conditions. Respond professionally and promptly to payroll inquiries from employees, the public, departmental personnel, internal staff, and external agencies, providing clear explanations and resolution when needed Who You are... The ideal candidate will have 4 years of payroll experience working as a payroll technician responsible for processing payroll, including calculating taxes, child support, garnishments, and payroll functions for a large organization. We are also looking for the following, so please make sure to highlight on your application/resume:Experience with INFOR Enterprise Software or a similar in-house Payroll system. Possessing strong computer and related software skills (e.g., Excel, payroll software systems/applications, Ten Key by touch)Data analysis involves examining time records, wages, benefits, deductions, and taxes, to find errors and optimize processes. Producing quality, detailed, accurate, prompt, and reliable results. Strong customer service and communication skills, ethical conduct, and objectivity and confidentiality. Able to work in a team environment and maintain cooperative working relationships at multiple levels within a diverse workforce.
