Under the direction of the Head Women’s Basketball Coach, the Director of Basketball Operations will provide support and assistance with all aspects of the women’s basketball program. The Director will oversee all team travel, video exchange, social media, and technology. The Director will also oversee the student managers and assist with management of uniforms and equipment as well as assist the coaching staff with recruiting. The incumbent is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Furman University, the Conference, and the NCAA. Furman University is a member of the NCAA at the Division I level. Job Description:Responsibilities:Academic Responsibilities - Monitor class attendance (report any problems to head coach) - Compile team class schedules. Team Travel - Oversee team travel plans and arrangements specifically dealing with: hotel reservations, contracts, rooming lists, meals/banquet event orders; meal arrangements for times withrestaurants and reservations, pre-order forms, meal money; transportation including directions and itinerary, and handling all money transactions. - Coordinate all practice and shoot around times on the road. Film Exchange - Adhere to all NCAA and Southern Conference rules in regards to film exchange - Obtain the schedules of all our opponents and send out film exchange requests to selected institutions - Post and receive games in a timely manner on Dragonfly software - Monitor all film exchange equipment to make sure all is updated and functioning correctly - Obtain TV schedules for game; tape as many TV non-conference and conference games as possible - Provide holiday addresses (i.e. coaches home addresses) for films that may arrive during a holiday break. Film Editing/ Game and Practice Clips - Be proficient in use of editing systems. Audio/ Video/ Computer Management - Ensure that all computers, burners, projectors, and AV equipment (except individual computers) are functioning properly and up-to-date - Report any malfunction or damages - Ensure all software is current and up-to-date - Suggest new software and equipment that will help our program. Equipment - Liaison with equipment room manager - Place equipment orders as directed by head coaches - Monitor and organize all incoming orders - Distribute all equipment to players and coaches - Report all shortages and problems to head coaches. Facility - Coordinate Timmons Arena/ Alley Gym/ PAC for all practices and workouts - Communicate changes/issues with Head Coaches - Coordinate visiting teams practice/shoot around timeso Coordinate meeting of opponents for times when using Timmons Arenao Make sure facility is accessible with appropriate set up - Provide Calendars indicating when gym is available. Recruiting - Assist in keeping files updates in recruiting database - Assist the head coaches and assistant coaches with on-campus recruiting and coordinating underclass recruiting, locker room set-up for visits, game-day logistics for recruits including meals, activities, seating, etc. Managers - Secure managers for the upcoming season - Ensure that managers are covering laundry, practices, and film of games - Organize, communicate, enforce, oversee all responsibilities throughout all individual workouts, practices, and games - Schedule one manager to travel to away contest - Make sure managers are compensated - Make sure the managers duties are compliant with NCAA regulations that are set for student managers - Monitor manager’s dress code for all practices, workouts, and games - Assist with responsibilities as needed (i.e. gym set up, equipment, clock, video equipment for all practices)Social Media Accounts - Make sure team Facebook and Twitter account are updated on a regular basis - Make sure all media account are compliant with NCAA regulations. Administrative Duties - Communicate with players during the year via e-mail in regards to updates, changes in schedule, etc. - Distribute player information sheets to incoming, current & transfer student-athletes. Male Practice Squad - Find and secure a male practice squad of approximately ten players to attend practices daily - Make sure that all male practice players have secured a physical and are compliant with NCAA regulations regarding male practice players. Other - Any other duties assigned by head coaches to facilitate fundraising, marketing, banquets, or community service. Relationships:Daily contact with members of own work unit, immediate supervisor, student athletes, student managers and general public. Frequent contact with other departments, the general public, and sponsors to exchange factual information and explanation of rules, regulations, practices or functions. Responsibility for Final Decisions:Supervision of one position: student manager. Tasks are well defined and repetitive, following prescribed steps, methods and/or procedures. Work involves limited choice with regard to the selection of appropriate tools, methods or materials. Errors are readily detected in the normal course of work by standard check or crosscheck. Reports To: Head Women’s Basketball Coach. Work is performed independently on routine work, non-routine issues or questions are referred to the supervisor. Education/ Skill Requirements:Bachelors Degree. Extensive knowledge of all conference and NCAA policies, rules, and regulations and adhere to these policies as they pertain to the duties and responsibilities of the job. Ability to work effectively with college student athletes, athletic staff, University personnel and Alumni. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Independent judgment is necessary to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload with attention to detail. Time management skills and the ability to multitask are essential to successful performance of this position. Work Conditions:Work is performed under usual office conditions. Work requires:- Frequent evening and weekend work.- Frequent travel.- Daily exposure to varied weather conditions.- Daily reaching and handling.- Daily stooping and kneeling.- Daily pushing and pulling.- Daily lifting and carrying.- Daily climbing and balancing.
