The Law Department within the City of Springfield is looking for qualified applicants for the position of Deputy City Attorney. This position will work as part of the leadership team and represent the City in the City Attorney's absence. Will also assist the City Attorney in management of all legal affairs for the City Council and City administration and to plan, coordinate, and manage the activities of the Law Department and Prosecutor's Office as assigned by the City Attorney. - - - THIS IS AN INTERNAL POSTING FOR CITY OF SPRINGFIELD EMPLOYEES ONLY - - -
Qualifications and Requirements
Experience, Education, and Training. Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctorate degree;AND - Ten years of progressively responsible related experience in civil and/or municipal law; Supervisory experience is preferred and may be substituted for some of the required law experience on a year-for-year basis. PREFERRED - Four years of the ten years' experience to be for a public entity or comparably large and complex organization. Knowledge. Considerable knowledge of judicial procedure, rules of civil and criminal procedure, negotiations and rules of evidence;Thorough comprehension of City code, charter provisions and state law with particular reference to municipal legal provisions and municipal law;Working knowledge of modern policies and practices of municipal law and public administration;Considerable knowledge of management principles, techniques and practices;Working knowledge of modern office practices including Windows-based word processing systems, electronic research systems, and social media.
