Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation's largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. Seattle City Light's Boundary Dam is looking for a temporary Tour Guide to join our great team for the summer! The selected candidate will conduct educational and informational tours of the Boundary Hydroelectric Project for the public promoting stewardship and goodwill within the community. This position will report to the Chief Hydroelectric Operator. Working hours are Friday – Monday. Tours are offered Friday – Monday. Scheduled gate tours at 8:00 am, 10:00 am, 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm.
Job Responsibilities
Conduct tours of Boundary Project; provide for the general safety, comfort, and convenience of tourists during their visit to Boundary Dam. Provide daily gate tours and pre-scheduled educational tours to school, church, reunion, scout or retirement groups. Deliver prepared lectures at an assembly site as directed, answers questions relative to facilities, operations, hydroelectric generation, energy conservation, history of the Boundary Hydroelectric Project, and local community area points of interest. Monitor the tour email account, phone messages, schedule group tours, and manage the website. Cleans Visitors' Gallery and Vista House including visitors' washrooms and restocks supplies. Cleaning includes dust mopping, wet mopping and waxing floors, vacuuming runners, washing windows, and dusting. Disinfect, sanitize, and remove garbage from visitor facilities and washrooms. Provides information and distributes literature. Stocks informational brochures at Visitors' Gallery and Vista House. Write activity reports, schedules and tally visitor count for the Operations Manager.
Qualifications
Experience: One year of experience, either paid or volunteer, involving group leadership, sales, public presentations or participation in church, school or other organized group activity. Work Environment/ Physical Demands. Positions in this class are required to work outdoors in bad weather, with frequent exposure to excessive noise in powerhouses. The work requires long periods of standing and walking, and an awareness of safety precautions in guiding tourists through trails, incline lifts, on boats, in powerhouses and near dams. Required to work nights, weekends and/or holidays. License, Certification and Other Requirements. Valid driver's license. Current First Aid Card/ CPR card from a recognized trainer. Desired Qualifications:One year experience as a Tour Guide. (This experience can be gained through either paid or volunteer experience or one year of experience leading groups or one year of experience giving public presentations.)Excellent customer service skills to interact with the public. Demonstrated willingness to learn. Quick study. Open and responsive to public inquiries. Ability to efficiently deliver prepared lectures and responses to public inquiries. Strong sense of initiative, friendly, and personable. Experience performing general custodial duties Knowledge of Metaline Falls Area and Northern Pend Oreille County a plus. Some related college credit preferred. Provide a safe environment for all visitors.
