The Position - - - THIS RECRUITMENT IS ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT PERMANENT AUHSD EMPLOYEES FOR SUMMER WORK IN 2026 - - - - - - PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS EXPECTED TO BE A LIMITED NUMBER OF AVAILABLE ASSIGNMENTS - - - 2026 TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTPAY RATE: STEP 1 of Warehouse Assistant ($24.57/hour)LOCATION: Central Warehouse. DATES: 6/3/26 - 8/4/26 (Assignments are typically around 4 weeks in duration)TYPICAL HOURS: 6:00 a.m. TO 2:30 p.m. HR CONTACT: MARYAM DAGHIGHIAN (daghighianm@auhsd.us)IMPORTANT NOTES- You must be available for the entire duration of the assignment.- If you are absent or decline to stay for the hours scheduled for any given day your summer work assignment is subject to termination.- This is an extra hours opportunity and is subject to change based on department needs and cannot be guaranteed (not part of regular assignment).- This opportunity has no impact on an employee's regular assignment or "reasonable assurance" to return to their regular assignment after summer.- The primary function of the summer assignment is to conduct a comprehensive inventory for the District. Employment Standards MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION: - Required: Graduation from high school or equivalent. EXPERIENCE: - Required: Six (6) months of experience in warehousing, including receiving, issuing, packing, shipping, storage work, and warehouse management/tracking systems. Substitution: Previous experience working out-of-class at AUHSD in the Central Warehouse may substitute for the experience requirement. Preferred: Paid experience operating a forklift. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California Driver License and remain insurable at the standard insurance market rate. Must be able to drive a cargo truck up to 18,000 lb. GVW (standard freight, non-air brake). Preferred: Valid Forklift Certification. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKNOWLEDGE OF (Typically learned through formal training or education):Proper methods and techniques for receiving, storage, inventory, issuance, packing, and shipping of school and/or maintenance equipment, supplies, and materials. Basic methods, practices and terminology used in warehouse, shipping, and receiving operations. Use and terminology of requisitions, purchase orders, invoices and other warehouse documents. Equipment and supplies used in a school system. Basic record-keeping and filing techniques. General space utilization and inventory methods and practices. Proper lifting techniques. Health and safety regulations. SKILL TO (Typically attained through formal training or practice):Learn storage demands, forecasting, and planning for space needs. Operate and maintain a forklift and pallet jack in a safe manner. Wrap and pack articles for shipping and storage. Operate an electric lift gate to safely load and unload palletized goods and heavy equipment. Work closely with the supervisor (e.g. Warehouse Manager) and site leads to identify, investigate, and resolve variances between physical stock and digital records. Learn laws, codes, rules and regulations related to assigned activities. Execute a daily schedule for the collection, sorting, and delivery of all internal mail and correspondence between district facilities. Accurately record barcodes, serial numbers, and quantities. Assist in the final reconciliation process to ensure 100% audit compliance. Use a computer and assigned software effectively, including input, search, and report techniques. Maintain current and accurate records of warehouse transactions. Search catalogs to identify and order replacement parts for buses, trucks, and other district equipment. Add, subtract, multiply and divide accurately. ABILITY TO (Typically a personal quality attained without formal training, education, or practice):Lift and move heavy objects by hand, hand truck, or other material handling equipment. Work cooperatively with others. Adapt to adjusted summer schedules and high-volume workloads. Understand and carry out written and oral instructions. WORKING CONDITIONS:ENVIRONMENT:Typical warehouse environment, including operating a computer to maintain records and search for information. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Hear normal voice conversation; speak clearly; depth perception and seeing small detail; reaching overhead; standing or sitting for extended periods of time; walking; bending repeatedly; and lifting and moving items of various shapes and weight up to 50 pounds without assistance frequently; may also lift objects weighing up to 90 pounds with assistance occasionally. Examples of Duties Note: The duties below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees in this classification and are not to be interpreted as an exhaustive list of responsibilities. GENERAL ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Receives and signs for school, building, maintenance and repair materials, parts and equipment, textbooks, and supplies delivered on purchase orders. Inspects incoming equipment, parts, materials, stock, and/or textbooks for conformity to purchase orders and packing lists; notify supervisor of shortages, damages and discrepancies as necessary. Packages, prepares paperwork, and arranges appropriate carrier transportation of outgoing materials. Coordinates between purchasing and other school sites and departments to trace shipments, resolve discrepancies and relay inventory status. Stores received items in appropriate warehouse sections, shelves, bays or bins; move stock locations as necessary. Maintains computerized records and compiles reports of shortages, damages, and other discrepancies; updates computerized records to reflect status of orders. Helps load and unload district and vendor trucks. Assists with printing bar code labels. Processes and fills requisitions; pull, pack and ship items to District locations in accordance with requisition specifications; verify merchandise counts; wrap and label pallets; move merchandise to loading docks and staging or will call areas for shipment or pickup; complete and submit related paperwork. Participates in periodic and annual inventory activities; prepare items in stock for inventory; count and record numbers of stock items. Maintains warehouse and work areas in a clean, safe and orderly condition; empty waste receptacles, spot mop spills and sweep floors as needed; sort and stack pallets. Operates a variety of warehouse equipment including a forklift, pallet jack, hand truck, scale, baler and shrink wrap machine; operate a variety of office equipment including a copier and computer and assigned software. Independently works with district offices and other departments to complete special projects related to warehouse functions. Drives a District vehicle, such as an 18,000 GVW cargo truck (standard freight, non-air brake) to and from sites to conduct work (e.g. for local deliveries and pickups). Utilizes Warehouse/ Inventory Management Systems (WMS) and package tracking software to log incoming stock, update inventory levels, and process outbound shipments. Attends meetings and trainings as directed.
