The Massachusetts Department of Public Health at Tewksbury Hospital is accepting applications for a Registered Nurse III specializing in wound care and performance improvement. In this highly visible role, you will play an essential part in advancing patient outcomes by leading hospital-wide initiatives focused on wound care excellence and fall prevention. Working with a diverse adult patient population with complex and chronic medical needs, you will combine clinical expertise with data-driven decision-making to influence care standards, improve safety, and elevate quality across the organization. You will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, guide nursing staff through education and best practices, and help shape programs that directly impact patient safety and quality of care. Please note: This position is 40 hours per week, and the incumbent will work the 1st shift schedule from 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM. Days off: Saturday and Sunday. Employees in this position will be required to work mandatory overtime. Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive): Deliver comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with complex and chronic medical conditions, including those with acute care needs. Conduct thorough wound assessments and develop evidence-based treatment recommendations in accordance with clinical guidelines. Lead the implementation and ongoing refinement of wound care and skin integrity protocols aligned with national standards. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop, evaluate, and adjust patient-centered care plans focused on wound management and fall prevention. Chair the Skin Wound Assessment Team (S. W. A. T.) and oversee routine wound prevalence studies to monitor outcomes. Direct and manage the facility’s Fall Prevention Program, including leading committee meetings and disseminating performance data. Analyze clinical data related to wounds and falls, preparing reports to support quality improvement and benchmarking initiatives. Investigate and evaluate incidents involving patient falls and skin breakdown, identifying trends and recommending corrective actions. Provide education, training, and guidance to nursing staff on best practices in wound care, fall prevention, and performance improvement. Evaluate emerging products and clinical practices, conduct trials, and present recommendations to support evidence-based care and regulatory compliance. Required Qualifications: Strong knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and clinical procedures, including infection control and patient safety standards. Demonstrated ability to assess clinical data, make sound recommendations, and support patient care planning. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with interdisciplinary teams. Knowledge of healthcare regulations, policies, and standards, including patient confidentiality requirements (e.g., HIPAA)Ability to educate, guide, and support staff in clinical best practices and performance improvement initiatives Preferred Qualifications: Certification in Wound Care (e.g., CWCN) or willingness to obtain and maintain certification. Experience in wound care management and/or fall prevention programs. Experience leading committees, teams, or quality improvement initiatives in a healthcare setting. Strong background in data collection, analysis, and reporting for clinical quality indicators. Familiarity with hospital-based performance improvement and patient safety programs. Experience conducting staff training and developing clinical education materials. Demonstrated ability to evaluate new clinical products and implement evidence-based practices.
