Keeping Washington Clean and Evergreen. The Department of Ecology is hiring a Maintenance Mechanic 2 within the Administrative Services Division. Location:Eastern Region Office in Spokane, WA. Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station. Schedule: This position is required to work in the office five days per week and is not eligible for telework. Duties In this position, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance needs of our Eastern Regional office. This will include the monitoring and first line management of the buildings HVAC, plumbing, and Electrical systems. Routine work will include regular evaluation of building controls to ensure that the building is maintained in a fully functional capacity. In the event of identifying building control issues that are beyond your scope or capability, you will work with the facilities team to source an outside vendor and coordinate the work carried out. Additional work will include responding to issues identified by building staff. This position is assigned to the Eastern Regional office in Spokane, but on occasion may be required to travel to our other facilities as needs dictate. Non-overnight travel may occur approximately 4 times per year, with overnight travel once per year. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate your proficiency in troubleshooting and all aspects of facility maintenance. What you will do:Monitor building systems daily and respond to any discrepancies in building system performance. Systems include HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Keycard systems, and EV Charging Equipment. Inspect building grounds including the main building, parking lots, and annex. Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on building equipment as required. Perform grounds maintenance tasks to include clearing sidewalks and walkways of snow as required. Schedule and coordinate on-site work carried out by outside vendors. Provide occasional support to the facilities team at other Ecology sites. Typical sites include the Central Region Office in Union Gap, WA, and the Richland Field Office in Richland, WA. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications:Four years of experience and/or education as described below:Experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work. Experience must demonstrate competence in the following skills:Facilities Maintenance and Repair Knowledge - Knowledge of commercial building systems (structural, plumbing, electrical, mechanical) and the ability to perform routine and complex repairs. Building Systems Troubleshooting - Skill in diagnosing and repairing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life-safety, and other non-IT building systems using testing tools and technical documentation. Building Automation System Operation - Demonstrated experience operating and troubleshooting commercial building automation systems (such as Automated Logic) to maintain facility performance. General Construction and Carpentry - Ability to perform construction tasks including framing, drywall installation and finishing, painting, concrete work, and office reconfiguration. Vendor Coordination - Demonstrated experience scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring contractors; verifying work completion; and ensuring adherence to timelines and specifications. Technical Documentation & Records Management - Ability to maintain accurate work orders, maintenance logs, inspections, and electronic records in accordance with agency retention and public records rules. Tools, Equipment, and Maintenance Technology - Proficiency with hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance-related computer software (Microsoft Office, work order systems, building controls software). Independent Work Management & Problem Solving - Ability to independently prioritize work, respond to urgent issues, and resolve facility problems safely and professionally. Education from a college, vocational, trade, or apprenticeship program in facilities maintenance, mechanical or electrical engineering, or closely related field. Examples of qualifying education:An associates degree in a related discipline will fulfill two years of the required experience. Completion of one or more of the certifications listed below will fulfill one year of the required experience each:Building Care and Maintenance Certificate of Competency. Maintenance Technician I and II Certification. Building Care and Maintenance I and II Certification. EPA 608 Universal Certification. OSHA 10 Certification Examples of how to qualify:4 years of experience . years of experience AND 30-59 semester or 45-89 quarter college credits . years of experience AND one of the above mentioned certifications . years of experience AND 60-89 semester or 90-134 quarter college credits (Associate’s degree or above).2 years of experience AND two or more of the above mentioned certifications. Special Requirements/ Conditions of Employment: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Desired Qualifications:Experience working within a preventative maintenance program. Knowledge of Fire Alarm and Fire Suppression systems and their testing procedures. Hazardous materials handling and safe disposal. Material storage and inventory control. Understanding of building-related emergency response procedures.
