This posting is only for current internal City of Portland employees. Carpenters are responsible for planning, organizing and executing construction, maintenance and repair projects including estimating time, materials, and equipment and coordinating job activities with other crafts, trades personnel, equipment operators and assistants. These positions also review plans and specifications, and confers with engineers, design professionals and inspectors on suggested modifications. Individuals in this position are expected to work at heights and in confined spaces and are required to lift, up to 100 lbs. PP&R positions involve building, repairing and restoring wooden structures; cabinet making and design; architectural historic restoration; carpentry work related to furniture and fixtures; and preparation and installation of related elements, such as drywall, plaster, ceilings, concrete, stucco, flooring, glazing, masonry, roofing, sheet metal and plastic laminate. If you have experience in carpentry work related to architectural restoration, equipment, furniture and fixtures, ceiling systems, masonry, sheet metal, and plastic laminate, please include this information in your resume. PBOT positions involve safely performing rough carpentry in the field, including constructing/fabricating, and placing concrete forms, restoring wooden structures, and constructing fixtures. This position also requires performing a variety of other duties in maintaining the City's bridges, retaining walls, tunnels, overpasses, harbor walls, guardrails, stairways, and vaulted walkways. Other duties include but are not limited to: placing rebar, pour and finish concrete, replace roadway guardrail, set rigging and scaffolding, operate lifts, forklifts, and small cranes, clear work areas and city assets of vegetation, setting up traffic control, installation of masonry and block/rock, develop sketches of proposed repairs, and provide estimates for time, materials, and equipment required. This position is part of the PBOT emergency response team for events including water/flood management, snow/ice clearing, and earthquake inspection/repairs. . To Qualify
Applicants must meet each of the following qualifications per HRAR 7.01: Hold regular status in this classification. Passed probationary period. Or Hold limited duration status in this classification. The following are the knowledge, skills and abilities that the bureau has identified as critical and your resume should include/highlight these areas. Skill and experience in carpentry repair and construction of wooden structures, including preparation and installation of related elements: drywall, plasters, concrete, stucco, flooring, roofing, and masonry. Knowledge and experience applying the tools, materials, processes and techniques of carpentry and allied trades. Skill and experience applying measurements and arithmetic computations including multiplication, division, fractions, decimals and conversions. Ability and experience communicating and working effectively with co-workers in a diverse workforce and respond appropriately to questions/concerns from other employees and the public.
