ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Will inspect, replace and/or repair shoes or missing shoes in the paddock area Must be able to perform these tasks with speed and efficiency in a stressful paddock environment Must work with the paddock judge in concert with all shoe repair done in the paddock to assist in the functionality of the race program Distributes horse saddle pads and head numbers to appropriate horsemen according to race schedule. Retrieves and cleans horse saddle pads throughout race night. Maintain cleaning supplies inventory. Perform work with chemicals as instructed by product labels. Report all maintenance issues as needed. Communicate (both written and verbal) with and promote positive team member relations. Maintain professionalism at all times when working with other team members and/or guests. Promotes outstanding horsemen relations. Performs all other duties as assigned. REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES Previous work in any farrier or blacksmith detail involving the proper shoeing, manufacturing and application of horses. Ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the necessary functions of this position. American Sign Language is also an acceptable form of communication. Ability to consistently comprehend, retain and execute written, verbal and demonstrated directions, explanations and guidance Must be able to obtain and keep a License issued by the Maryland Racing Commission required of all Racing Services employees. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or Equivalent
