WJHG/ WECP, the local leader in news and weather, is looking for a full-time meteorologist to join our award-winning weather team. This position requires knowledge and expertise in delivering weather to all platforms, broadcast and digital. Strong technical skills are necessary, as this position will provide weather solo on our Streaming TV desk. Must have strong social media skills as well, and understand the importance of severe weather coverage in a hurricane market. This position is not for beginners; a minimum of two years of experience is required. Duties/ Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Creating accurate weathercasts for on-air and all platforms, including web, social media, streaming, and broadcast.- Create forecasts under the guidance of the Chief Meteorologist and News Director to follow all station branding.- Fill in as needed on other shifts, including nights and weekends, and be present for any severe weather outbreaks under the guidance of the Chief Meteorologist and News Management.- Be able to go live or report on weather/environmental events as directed by News Management.- Stay calm, clear, and organized during breaking weather situations, with commitment to accuracy and dedication to serving the community on all platforms daily and during severe weather situations.- Represent the station at community events, including but not limited to speaking at events and school visits, hosting trips to the news station, and making public appearances as directed by News Management. Qualifications/ Requirements: - A BA/ BS or Master's Degree in Meteorology, or other similar degree, with emphasis on broadcast.- Prior professional experience working as an on-air meteorologist is a MUST. This is not an entry-level position.- Strong on air communication skills, with emphasis on breaking down complex forecasts in an easy-to-understand format for broadcast.- Strong professional social media skills.- Strong technical and writing skills.- A valid driver's license and good driving record.
