Provide technical expertise and support from an engineering perspective to ensure safe and effective operation, maintenance and enhancement of National Grid’s gas distribution network in accordance with the corporate strategic plan. Perform standard and complex engineering analysis and provide recommendations associated with Leak Prone Pipes proactive replacement program, system operating procedures, equipment and facility integrity assessments, Non-pipe Alternatives and Hydrogen Blending projects system analysis. Perform standard engineering analysis/calculations and designs (e.g., site layout, piping design, material specification, etc..) associated with small scale complex projects and/or participate in large scale complex projects. Independently collate and analyze data within one area using pre-determined tools, methods, and formats to support the department’s decision-making process. Execute instructions and requests, plan and organize resources and make appropriate arrangements to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and in line with relevant policies and processes. Test and challenge existing procedures (ENG 04030) and highlight areas for improvement to ensure they are robust. Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to obtain and share information that will benefit National Grid. Undertake specific tasks of varying complexity to support the Gas Field Operations team in analyzing pipe segments deemed risky by the field support group. Build upon technical/professional skills within own area of specialization or of other processes to continually grow your personal contribution to the business. Train and provide guidance to new hires on the team. Conduct specific projects within area of capability and perform engineering studies, analyzes and investigations, under supervision, in order to recommend corrective action in problem areas, or to prevent problems. Qualifications Bachelor's degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Engineering (any) or Technology, and 6 years of progressively responsible post-bachelor’s degree experience related experience required. Alternatively, a Master’s degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Engineering (any) or Technology, and 5 years of related experience required. The position also requires: 5 years of engineering experience is required; 2 years of engineering experience in risk analysis of underground gas distribution facilities; 2 years of experience developing and managing multi-year utility gas infrastructure replacement programs (i.e. annual replacement plan exceeding 100 miles) including reconciling longterm plans with real-time operational constraints while coordinating with multiple internal departments and external stakeholders; 2 years of experience with GIS technologies in ESRI geospatial analysis tools including creating risk-based maps and analyzing main assets to support strategic planning and regulatory reporting; 1 year of experience using GIS and asset data to do an equity-based infrastructure analysis to demonstrate non-discriminatory asset replacement practices in compliance with state and utility commission mandates; and 2 years of experience in gas distribution, including relevant industry practices, standards, and legislation. Valid driver's license required. 20% travel required to various National Grid offices across New York State for meetings with various internal/external (Municipalities) stakeholders for Main Replacement Projects updates/ Coordination/ Training. Telecommuting may be permitted. When not telecommuting, must report/appear into/at the National Grid Engineering & Survey Inc. offices in Melville, NY. $154,981 - $154,981 per year. National Grid Engineering & Survey Inc will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening.
