The PRN Spanish Interpreter provides accurate, confidential, and culturally competent spoken Spanish interpretation services for patients, families, and staff at Craig Hospital. This role supports effective communication across clinical and non-clinical settings to ensure equitable access to care, patient safety, and compliance with legal and regulatory standards. The PRN Spanish Interpreter works under the direction of the Coordinator of Interpretive Services and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to facilitate meaningful communication using in-person and approved remote interpretive modalities. This position provides spoken Spanish interpretation only and does not include ASL or other signed language services. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Interpretation Services Provide accurate, complete, and impartial Spanish interpretation during clinical encounters including therapies, physician visits, admissions, discharges, care conferences, education sessions, and non-clinical interactions. Interpret according to national standards of practice and ethical guidelines for healthcare interpreters. Utilize approved in-person or remote interpretive technology as assigned. Coordination Communication Accept assignments and scheduling direction from the Coordinator of Interpretive Services. Communicate availability, schedule changes, and concerns promptly and professionally. Collaborate respectfully with physicians, therapists, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to support patient-centered communication. Compliance Quality Assurance Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA, patient confidentiality, and hospital policies. Uphold professional boundaries and neutrality; refrain from advocacy, counseling, or personal opinions during interpretation. Participate in quality assurance activities, peer feedback, and performance improvement initiatives as requested. Documentation Administrative Support Complete required documentation in Epic (EMR) according to department standards. Accurately track and submit hours worked and encounter information. Report ethical concerns, safety risks, or communication barriers to the Coordinator of Interpretive Services promptly. - -
