Performs professional level duties to assist library patrons and maintain library collection of materials.
Essential Functions
Answer questions from library patrons; assist in locating materials; and instruct patrons in the effective use of library equipment and resources;Assist paraprofessional and clerical staff in circulation as needed;Select, order and maintain records of money spent for materials;Review current literature of library and publishing companies to keep abreast of available materials, programs, and library procedures;Plan and conduct programs for children and adults;May supervise library support staff;Participates in ongoing professional development to keep abreast of new trends and developments;Must work some evenings and weekends as a regular part of a rotating schedule. Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
Completion of a master degree in library science, or ability to complete degree requirements within six months, or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:Valid Current Driver's License
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:Principles and practices of library science;Computer applications related to library functions. Dewey Decimal System, OCLC, Ability to:Effectively provide customer service to library patrons;Evaluate library materials;Develop and implement library programs;Operate computer and software;Display flexibility when new types of materials or methodology or software become available;Physical Requirements. Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds;Frequently walk and stand during a shift;Occasionally kneel;Frequently push and pull objects;Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing;Reach above, at or below shoulder height;Frequently handle objects;Frequently crouch or stoop.
