The St. Louis County Government Department of Public Health is looking for a Forensic Investigator to join their team. The Office of the Medical Examiner is responsible for investigating all sudden, unexpected, suspicious, unnatural or violent death or deaths that represent a threat to public health. The Investigators will evaluate and investigate reportable deaths according to defined policies and procedures to meet state and local laws. The work schedule consists of rotating three-month shifts to support 24/7 operations. The position works 10-hour shifts 4 days per week, which may include weekends and holidays. Shift hours are 8:00 am – 6:00 pm for the daytime rotation and 10:00 pm – 8:00 am for the overnight rotation. Hours and days may vary based on the needs of the office. There is a 10% shift differential for overnight shifts. The typical starting salary range will be $55,536 - $66,643 annually depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience as well as budgetary considerations. Examples of Duties
Essential Function Examples. Assess death reports to determine the extent of investigation required to close any given case. Perform scene investigations and determine associated facts related to death to assist in determination of cause and manner of death. Establish scientific positive identification of decedent, communicate with family members to notify them of decedent's death and determine disposition of remains. Share investigative, forensic and medical information with involved agencies. Marginal Function Examples. Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree and one year of related experience. Possession of an AMBDI (American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators) Certification within two years of employment. A current, valid driver's license is also required.
