ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Operates various types and configurations of maintenance vehicles and equipment (CDL required). This can include trucks with and without trailers hauling a wide variety of materials, equipment and cargo. Operates trucks with attached plows and sander boxes for snow removal operations often under inclement weather conditions. Operates and/or supports various maintenance equipment to include dump trucks, motor graders, wheel loaders, water trucks, vactor trucks, pavers, rollers packers, sweepers, kick brooms, pickups, crack seal machines, heat lancers, grazers, chippers, chainsaws, trimmers, chip spreaders, oil distributors, dozers, excavators, cranes, weed spray trucks, mowers, backhoes, etc. Safely performs all work zone traffic control duties including, but not limited to, setting up barricades, signage cones and flagging for stationary and moving work zones. Patrols road system and performs various types of labor with hand or specialized tools making necessary assigned or emergency repairs to road surfaces, shoulders, ditches drains, drywells, culverts, etc. Reports and/or mediates hazards, patches holes, cuts and removes brush/trees, clears drainage blockages, removes dead animals and picks up litter or trach. Advises supervisor or a designee and/or the appropriate department as to potential hazards or needed repairs to the road systems (i.e. washouts, downed trees, signage, drainage issues, etc.). Performs daily maintenance of the equipment. Puts on and takes off tire chains, changes flat tires. Maintains time and equipment records. Performs hand ditching, patching, hole filling, leveling of surfaces and cutting of brush. Performs various types of physical labor with hand or specialized tools, makes emergency repairs on roads, assists motorists and the general public. Has ability to perform and operate road maintenance equipment including any manual labor incidental to completing an assigned job. Performs other related duties as required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS - High School Diploma or GED equivalent. One (1) year of experience in work equivalent to road maintenance work, construction or similarly related field operating heavy equipment and/or machinery. Possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a valid State of Washington Traffic Flagging Certification within thirty (30) days of employment. Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid First Aid/ CPR/ AED card and must be maintained throughout employment. Possession of a valid Washington Driver's License at time of hire, with an acceptable driving record and for the duration of employment. Requires a valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement and no disqualifying restrictions at the time of application and must be maintained throughout employment. Requires a valid CDL Medical Card with no disqualifying restrictions at the time of application and must be maintained throughout employment. PLEASE NOTE: Applicant’s must submit a valid and current (within the last 30 days) Department of Licensing (DOL) Driver’s abstract prior to hire date. Employees are required to maintain a satisfactory Department of Licensing (DOL) driving record. Periodic verification and review of (DOL) Driver’s abstracts and random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing will be conducted by the County’s Risk Management department.
