Geosynthetic Liner Field Inspector

Stantec is seeking an experienced Geosynthetic Liner Field Inspector well versed in field quality control and quality assurance of geosynthetic liner systems (GC - Ls and HDPE/ LLDPE geomembranes), geocomposite drainage layers, and compacted clay liners. Stantec’s on-site services will be performed by a project team responsible for monitoring construction activities to verify that construction is performed per the design and in accordance with the contract documents. A team of engineers and other professionals will provide office support to the project team, as required. Your Key Responsibilities: - Serve as Stantec’s on-site site safety representative, with ability to maintain a safe working environment for themselves and others by participating in daily safety briefings, observations, and walkdowns prior to executing the work or when conditions change. - Provide full-time on-site quality oversight of liner systems consisting of compacted clay liners, geosynthetic liners (HDPE, LLDPE, etc.), geocomposite drainage layers, and geotextiles. - Perform construction quality observations and documentation of subgrade preparation and acceptance, liner trial welds, panel deployment and seaming, non-destructive and destructive testing, and repairs. - Verify conformance with Technical Specifications, Drawings, Quality Management Plans (QC and QA), Manufacturer requirements, etc. - Serve as the liaison between the Engineer and the Contractor. - Interact routinely, effectively, and professionally with Client and contractor representatives and the Stantec office team. - Oversee and/or perform required testing (will vary by project type) and maintain required documentation in accordance with the project documents. - Operate computerized and digital testing and monitoring equipment. - Track construction progress, observed issues and resolutions, field discussions, etc. - Review and respond to daily construction issues, working with the design team, Client, and contractor(s) as appropriate to determine a resolution. - Communicate and report discrepancies and deviations from requirements to the design team and Client. - Maintain detailed documentation (daily reports, test results, RFIs, submittals, non-conformance reports, etc.) for inclusion in progress reports and record drawings. - Attend daily/weekly/monthly project field meetings. Your Capabilities and Credentials: - Working understanding of policies and procedures for Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) protection, including client-specific training (as required). - Experience with the construction quality control and quality assurance of geosynthetic liner systems (GC - Ls, HDPE, and LLDPE) is required; experience with PVC liners and other materials is a plus. - Experience with construction quality control and quality assurance of compacted clay liners is preferred. - Ability to use detailed plans for construction, technical specifications, quality management plans, other project documents, and familiarity with materials testing requirements and construction tolerances. - Proficient with desktop office software applications (word processor, spreadsheets, email, PDF viewers, etc.). - Working knowledge of codes and design requirements. - Effective written and verbal communication skills. Other capabilities may include construction quality experience in the following general areas: - Working on or around power or industrial facilities, flood control structures and impoundments, solar energy systems, etc. - Heavy earthwork and associated conformance testing - Cast-in-place and pre-cast concrete structures - Fusion welded HDPE pipe - Asphalt and concrete pavement - Below grade utility piping (water, storm sewer, sanitary, leachate, etc.) Personal attributes include: - Safety first attitude. - Effective written and verbal communication skills. - Self-motivated – ability to work and accomplish tasks with minimal direction. - Willingness to learn on the job. - Positive attitude. - Ability to work with a team on large complex projects. - Able to work under and meet tight deadlines. - Effective time management skills. - Ability to work alone in the field. Education and Experience - High school diploma or equivalent is required, secondary education in related field is a plus. - 5 years’ related experience. Prior experience with heavy civil earthwork and concrete projects is a plus - Geosynthetics Certification (GCI-ICP) or ability to obtain certification within 6 months from start of employment. - Certifications related to the position (ACI Level 1 Field Concrete Technician, nuclear density gauge, NICET, etc.) or ability to obtain within 6 months from start of employment. - This position requires extensive fieldwork with the ability to travel extensively in the region with overnight stays. Travel will be up to 100%. - Ability to work weekends as required. - A pre-employment drug screen may be required. - A valid driver’s license and good driving record are required.
