The Ground Data Systems and Services Organization is responsible for the architecture, development, deployment, and operation of Ground Data Systems (GDS) across all customer programs. We provide secure, scalable, and standardized solutions for programs across the Commercial Civil Space line of business, serving as a centralized hub of engineering expertise that enables mission success through innovative, cost-competitive, technologies and services. This position is for an mid-career Software Engineer for operational support and software development for the Ground Software Tools (GST) team of GDSSO in the Orion program. This position is in support of NASA's Artemis missions: Artemis 3, Artemis 4, Artemis 5 and any future missions in development. This position will support development of Java Groovy-based ground data products including command line, GUI-based, and web-based applications that support spacecraft telemetry data processing and analysis. All tasks will require working closely with the end users of all tools and responding to their feedback. In addition to adapting and modernizing existing tools for new missions, candidates will support general on-call admin and maintenance support duties along with operational activities during critical mission activities. You will be a critical member on exciting, cutting-edge missions to bring humans back to the moon! The primary responsibilities will include: - Perform software code, unit test, and integration test development for ground applications, tools and scripts in support of spacecraft test, analysis and operations - Support software requirements development and formal verification development and tests - Assist in operational support to spacecraft teams to deployed environments, including internally developed and 3rd party ground software. Includes ensuring real-time dataflows, data management process, querying processes, command building tools, and analysis tools - Support troubleshooting of deployed ground system hardware, operating systems, and networks, coordinating with System Admins to resolve issues - Understand spacecraft flight software and operations and how they integrate with the ground software system - Perform SW development and maintenance in a variety of languages (Java, Python, Groovy) - Develop web-based RESTful services, GUI interfaces, tools to transform data, automation pipelines for spacecraft operations, and more - Deploy and integrate software to operational environments, and provide operational support to systems and subsystems engineers within Orion - Perform tasks in accordance with Orion and Lockheed Martin software development best practices and defined SW development processes - Investigate opportunities to integrate AI into software development and data processing. - Knowledge of Hibernate - Knowledge of Git or Perforce - Knowledge of JBOSS or Tomcat - Proficiency in Python - Proficiency in Database usage: Oracle, Postgres or MySQL - Proficiency in Linux and Windows - Proficiency in bash or csh - Proficiency in designing and managing data systems for 100 users - Experience with Kubernetes, Ceph/ S 3 Storage or GO - Willingness to meet schedule demands for Mission Success, with possible admin and maintenance support on weekends or holidays - Willingness to perform adhoc daily maintenance and system health tasks - Proficiency in performing in-depth diagnostics and troubleshooting of automated software - Experience working under an Agile Framework (Scrum) - Demonstrated experience supporting multiple projects simultaneously - Knowledge of Java 8 - Expertise in Java 17 development, best practices, and tools - Experience with Jupyter notebooks - Knowledge of Git and Perforce with proficiency in version control - Desire to script and automate inefficient by-hand process and procedures - Experience with other Big Data and Cloud computing technologies not based on HADOOP - Experience with networking and installation of cloud systems requiring 24 hour uptime - Experience using AI for software development, test, demonstration, and data analysis - Experience working Ground Data Systems in support of spacecraft operations - Proficiency in Java development - Proficiency in Python - Proficiency in software development, test and system integration
