See full details in link below (for AFSCME employees) Full Benefits Summary (PDF) Shippensburg University is seeking a Semi-Skilled Laborer to support the Custodial Services Department with a strong emphasis on the maintenance, testing, repair, and operation of custodial equipment. The position performs semi-skilled mechanical, custodial, and maintenance duties across academic, administrative, residential, athletic, and event facilities. Work is completed in accordance with departmental policies, safety standards, and operational goals, with deviations reported to management. As an essential Facilities Division employee, the incumbent is required to report to work during emergencies, hazardous conditions, or class delays/cancellations. Key Responsibilities Perform semi-skilled mechanical maintenance and repair of a wide variety of standard and specialized custodial equipment. Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance and bi-weekly testing of all battery-operated custodial equipment. Perform minor repairs on custodial equipment, including but not limited to vacuums, shampooing machines, T-3 s, T-7 s, E-5 s, high-speed buffers, straight-line buffers, scrubbers, burnishers, extractors, and other powered equipment. Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, testing, repairs, and training. Operate custodial equipment for floor care, including spray buffing, polishing, stripping, sealing, waxing, and specialized cleaning of corridors, lounges, and campus facilities. Operate manual and power-operated custodial equipment such as commercial vacuums, scrubbers, polishers, heavy-duty buffers, burnishers, extractors, and commercial shampooers. Operate specialized equipment, including Tucker Window Washing systems, to clean exterior windows on campus buildings ranging from three to five stories in height. Assist with event setup and breakdown for athletic events, campus programs, and special functions. Load, unload, transport, and deliver custodial supplies and equipment; operate shop trucks, forklifts, snow blowers, and window-washing equipment as required. Support campus-wide cleaning initiatives and provide emergency response services, coordinating with appropriate staff and resources to resolve urgent situations effectively. Communicate regularly with management regarding equipment condition, repair needs, inventory levels, and training compliance. Maintain high standards of customer service, safety, and professionalism, responding promptly to service requests and emergencies. Maintain required training certifications and records for equipment operation, daily operator maintenance, safety procedures, and proper cleaning of custodial equipment. Perform related duties as assigned.
