Individuals who do not complete both portions of the process will be disqualified. GENERAL PURPOSE: Under close supervision, performs fire fighting, rescue, and emergency medical duties as required to control emergency incidents, and protect the lives and property of the City residents. All successful candidates are required to attend a City of Casa Grande designated Fire Academy. While in the Fire Academy, Firefighter Recruits' hourly rate of pay is $25.5016 based on a 40-hour workweek. Upon successful completion of the designated Fire Academy, Recruits will be classified as a Firefighter at an hourly rate of $20.3973 based on a 56-hour workweek. Must upload to application your current Arizona EMT or PEMT certification or Nationally registered EMT (NREMT) or Paramedic (NREMTP) certification. Must upload to application your current CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) - must have passed CPAT within last 12 months
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Responds to emergencies and non-emergency calls for service, and performs fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical duties as required; determines the proper course of action and follows orders under stressful conditions. Mitigates hazards, emergency situations and hazardous materials incidents. Operates emergency, fire, rescue, medical and life saving tools and equipment; assists and coordinates with law enforcement personnel and other responders as required. Inspects and maintains Fire Department facilities, equipment and supplies; cleans, repairs and returns equipment to service after use. Assists in the maintenance of required departmental and emergency response records. Performs preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Inspects and maintains personal protective equipment and assures that all equipment is in a state of readiness and available for immediate use. Assists with inspection of buildings for fire hazards and compliance with fire prevention ordinances; may assist with fire investigations. Assists with emergency medical and fire training for volunteers; participates in public education, prevention and safety activities. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience:High School diploma or GED equivalent, and one (1) year of firefighting experience. Special Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire; Certified as a State of Arizona Firefighter 1&2, and Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic; must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet Fire Department standards, and a valid Arizona Drivers License. Must complete probationary period and Emergency Driving Course to operate equipment under one ton. Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of Fire Department general orders, guidelines, policies and procedures. Knowledge of firefighting and emergency services techniques and procedures, and related safety issues. Knowledge of City's geography; the location of all streets, sites and building locations; and the hazards of these facilities, to assure that firefighting activities are accomplished in a fast, effective and safe manner. Skill and dexterity in providing firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services under emergency conditions. Skill in following orders under stressful conditions. Skill in recognizing the design, construction, utilization and contents of buildings in order to apply appropriate standard firefighting techniques. Skill in assessing emergency medical patient needs, and providing emergency medical care. Skill in performing maintenance and repair of firefighting vehicles, facilities and equipment. Skill in following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions. Physical Demands / Work Environment: Work is performed outdoors and indoors at emergency incident sites, and in fire station facilities.
