Veterans’ Internship Program. The Veterans’ Internship Program provides paid, on-the-job training opportunities for qualified veterans of the United States Armed Forces. This program is designed to help veterans gain valuable work experience and develop the skills needed to successfully compete for permanent County positions. Depending on the assignment, interns may participate in a structured 12- to 24-month training program in one of the specialty areas listed below. Requirements No experience required; however, the veteran must have been discharged or released from active duty - in the United States Armed Forces under honorable conditions. - Released from active duty refers to full-time military service, excluding active duty for training. License:A valid California Class C Driver's License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions. Some assignments may require a valid California Class A, B, or C Driver's License at the time of appointment. Successful applicants for positions that require driving must provide verification of their driver's license and a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved. Some assignments are rated Class (3 - Moderate) or Class (4 - Arduous) and require passing a physical exam . - Moderate. Stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds . -Arduous. Frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces. It includes those positions that occasionally demand extraordinary physical activity, such as those in Safety positions.
