About the Position: Investigates a variety of the more major or complex criminal cases for the department. Obtains information and evidence required to determine if a crime has been committed; arrests suspects; prepares cases for prosecution. Prepares and maintains required records and reports.
Examples of Duties
Directs and conducts investigations of felony and misdemeanor cases. Compiles and analyzes evidence and information; interviews witnesses and other relevant parties to obtain statements and information; interrogates suspects to ascertain information; prepares facts and documentation to obtain and serve warrants subpoenas, and other court orders as necessary to develop assigned cases. Education, Experience & Licenses
Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:Equivalent to the completion of twelfth (12th) grade. College level coursework in police science, administration of justice or a related field is desirable. Three (3) years of law enforcement experience which involved crime scene investigation, of which at least one year was at the level of Deputy Sheriff. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered. License & Special Requirements:Current Peace Officers' Standards and Training (POST) basic law enforcement certificate. A valid first aid and CPR certificate from a certified trainer/provider. A valid California driver's license. Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation prior to employment.
