Assists Plant Operators II and III with maintaining, modifying, troubleshooting, replacing, or repairing boiler and water treatment systems, various generators, machinery, and auxiliary control equipment such as components, pumps, forced and induced draft fans, air compressors, fuel transfer pumps, and water softeners. Responds to emergencies and service calls as required. Assists with scheduled inspections and tests, starting and shutting down boilers, clearing clogged drains, and taking oil samples for laboratory analysis. Maintains the plant water treatment program by treating boiler water with chemicals and analyzing its acidity, causticity, and alkalinity. Observe safety and security procedures and determine appropriate action; report potentially unsafe conditions; and adequately use various tools, materials, and equipment (e.g., hand, power, and specialty), dollies, carts, ladders, lifts, and hand trucks. Collaborates with the maintenance team, specialty skilled technicians, vendors, and supervisor to complete work orders. Communicates professionally with staff and residents about maintenance. Participates in department meetings, annual code compliance, continued education, and FHP training. Inspects and maintains consumables, supplies, and materials for utilization - Requisitions new consumables, supplies, materials, and equipment as needed. Monitor and interpret readings from IP-based sensors, control boxes, gauges, meters, and charts to maintain efficient burner combustion. Adjust controls and check instruments and meters to determine fuel and water levels. Documents all maintenance actions and delays in the work order system as appropriate. Maintains permits, Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA), and boiler operation logs, including maintenance activity, equipment readings, fuel and oil consumption, and production rates. Records facility equipment usage and runs reports. Operates and monitors emergency generators, fire monitoring, and control systems. May be assigned as a member of the Hospital Emergency Response Team for spill response in support of patient decontamination. Participates in energy management/conservation programs. Follow all FHP safety and regulatory requirements and codes, such as Infection control policies, Joint Commission requirements, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (AMSE), National Board Inspection Code Boiler & Unfired Pressure Vessels (NBIC), Alaska State Statutes & regulations. Cleans assigned work areas, maintains tools, storage, and designated areas orderly, and assists in other facilities services as required. Clean floors, windows, tools, parts, and power plant equipment as needed or directed, making minor repairs or assisting in the repair of boiler room equipment. Drives company vehicles to transport equipment and contract maintenance personnel as assigned. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Qualifications A high school diploma/ GED or one (1) year of vocational/technical training or apprenticeship training is required. Two (2) years of construction trade experience required. Obtain an ASHE Health Care Physical Environment Worker certification within the first six (6) months of hire. Proof of a valid driver's license and eligibility for coverage under the company auto insurance policy may be required. Must be able to read and understand drawings and illustrations. Demonstratable knowledge of electrical and pneumatic controls. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required. Must have flexible scheduling availability. Must have the ability to work up to 10-hour shifts if required. It may require on-call. Must be able to work effectively with plant computer software programs. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEPA 608 Universal Technician Certificate. Boiler Operator certificate of fitness: 2nd Class. Experience in a healthcare setting. Additional related education and experience preferred.
