Compensation commensurate with experience A well-regarded, multi-office law firm is seeking a Counsel / Senior Counsel to join its litigation team in Richmond. This is a strong opportunity for a mid-level litigator looking to step into a more hands-on role with meaningful responsibility across a broad range of civil defense matters. Practice Focus Insurance coverage litigation Insurance defense Insurance fraud investigations General civil litigation defense in Virginia state and federal courts Representative Matters Include: Tort and personal injury claims Trucking and transportation litigation Medical malpractice Premises liability Workplace accidents and exposures Wrongful death Business torts (fraud, breach of warranty, etc.) What You'll Be Doing Managing litigation files with increasing autonomy Taking and defending depositions Handling motions practice and drafting briefs (trial and appellate) Leading or supporting trial efforts (1st or 2nd chair opportunities) Conducting discovery and developing case strategy Collaborating with a seasoned litigation team on complex matters What They're Looking For 3-5 years of litigation experience (law firm setting required) Trial experience (1st or 2nd chair strongly preferred) Strong background in discovery, motion practice, and legal writing Experience taking/defending depositions Judicial clerkship experience is a plus (state or federal) Active Virginia Bar membership and admission to relevant state and federal courts Benefits Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage 401(k) with profit sharing Generous parental leave Paid parking and cell phone reimbursement 10 paid holidays floating holidays Ongoing CLE and professional development support This is an excellent fit for a litigation associate ready to step into a more senior, visible role and continue building toward long-term growth in a respected defense practice.
