Colorado Springs
Thursday, 30 April 2026
What if your first real kitchen experience wasn't just a job, but the beginning of something you'd look back on as the moment everything clicked? What if you got to learn from seasoned culinary professionals in a world-class hotel kitchen, build real skills, and walk away knowing you can hold your own in a professional environment? That's exactly what this opportunity is. We are looking for an energetic, creative, and passionate high school student to join our Culinary team at the Marriott Colorado Springs as a Culinary Intern. If food is more than just something you eat, if it's something you think about, experiment with, and genuinely love, we want to meet you. About the Role. This is not a role where you'll be standing in the corner watching. From day one, you'll be in the kitchen, learning by doing, working alongside our culinary leadership team, and contributing to real food production for our guests. Whether we're preparing for a banquet, plating for our dining room, or stocking the line for a busy service, you'll be part of making it happen. The Marriott Colorado Springs kitchen is a high-energy, professional environment where standards matter and creativity is valued. You'll be mentored by experienced culinary professionals who are genuinely invested in helping you grow. This is a rare opportunity for a young person who is serious about the culinary arts to get real, hands-on experience in a setting that most culinary students don't access until they're well into their training. If you've always felt most at home in a kitchen, if you're the person in your family or friend group who genuinely cares about how food tastes and looks and comes together, this program was built for someone like you. What You'll Be Doing. Developing your knowledge and hands-on skills in core cooking methods including grilling, sauteing, and frying under the guidance of our culinary team. Working with knives and professional kitchen equipment in a safe and supervised environment. Reading, understanding, and recreating recipes with consistency and attention to detail. Preparing cold items, salads, simple side dishes, appetizers, and other menu components. Prepping ingredients including washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and organizing mise en place for the shift ahead. Mixing and preparing cold sauces, meat glazes, jellies, salad dressings, and stuffings. Setting up workstations with all required ingredients and cooking equipment so the culinary team is ready to perform at the highest level. Assisting with inventory of ingredients to ensure proper par and stock levels are maintained. Learning and applying food waste reduction techniques through cross-utilization of ingredients. Maintaining a clean, sanitized, and organized kitchen environment at all times. Ensuring all food and supplies are stored correctly and safely. Taking ownership of the quality of the ingredients in your care and communicating any concerns to your supervisor. What We're Looking For. Currently enrolled in high school with a genuine interest in pursuing culinary arts as a career. Energetic, motivated, and ready to learn in a fast-paced professional kitchen. Creative and curious; you're not just following steps, you're paying attention to why things work. Strong desire to develop real culinary skills and grow within a professional kitchen environment. Ability to take direction well and follow both verbal and written instructions accurately. Detail-oriented and consistent; you understand that great food requires precision. A team-first attitude; kitchens run on collaboration and you understand that. Comfortable being on your feet and active throughout your shift. Ability to work in a warm, fast-moving kitchen environment. Ability to lift and carry items as needed in a kitchen setting. No prior professional kitchen experience required; what matters most is your passion, your attitude, and your willingness to work hard and learn. What You'll Walk Away With. This internship is designed to give you a genuine foundation in the culinary arts. By the time you complete this program, you will have real, hands-on experience in a professional hotel kitchen, exposure to the full range of food production from prep through service, and a working knowledge of kitchen safety, sanitation, knife skills, cooking methods, and recipe execution. You'll also have a professional reference and a meaningful addition to your resume or culinary school application that most students your age simply don't have. More than anything, you'll know whether a professional kitchen is truly where you want to build your future, and if the answer is yes, you'll have a strong head start. Who Thrives Here. The students who get the most out of this program are the ones who come in curious and humble. They ask questions. They take feedback seriously. They don't wait to be told what to do next. They find pride in keeping their station clean and their mise en place dialed in. They understand that every task, no matter how simple it seems, is part of delivering an exceptional experience to our guests. If that's how you approach things, you're going to love it here. What are we looking for? Qualifications. Must be a currently enrolled high school student. Must be at least 16 years of age. Basic understanding of kitchen safety and food hygiene is a plus, but not required. Ability to read and follow written recipes and instructions accurately. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to consistency in food preparation. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with team members and supervisors. Comfortable working in a warm, fast-paced kitchen environment for the duration of a shift. Ability to stand, walk, and remain on your feet throughout your shift. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. as needed. Comfortable with bending, reaching, and moving throughout a working kitchen. Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include afternoons, evenings, and weekends depending on business needs. A genuine passion for food and the culinary arts; this one is non-negotiable. No prior professional kitchen experience required; we will teach you what you need to know. About Us.
