Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Mental Health Specialist III in the Addiction Services of Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. The primary purpose of the Mental Health Specialist III position is to serve as a team member in providing and maintaining a safe therapeutic milieu. This position provides support and assists staff nurses as directed, as well as transports clients to and from treatment and other related activities. Actively participates in group activity and crisis intervention. Among the key duties of this position are the following: Provides transportation and direct care responsibilities for consumers/patients as assigned. Engages consumer/patient in appropriate treatment intervention based on service plan and supervisory directions. Interacts and communicates with consumer/patient in therapeutic manner. Assists with consumer admission, transfer, and discharge procedures. Certifications/ Licenses Valid driver’s license. Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol tests. Preferred Qualifications Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to lift up to seventy (70) pounds multiple times a day. Requires bending, lifting, sitting. Some travel to client homes and community agencies. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Subject to unpredictable situations, patient crisis, medical, substance use related and psychiatric. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens that require use of personal protective equipment.
