About this Job This position is in the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Fisheries Extension Section in support of a funded “dis. CARD” project aimed at tracking federal reef fish species discards. The incumbent will be responsible for completing pre-saltwater fishing trip surveys and distributing physical cards to vessels going on offshore fishing trips at survey sites around Venice and Grand Isle, Louisiana. Position will also perform data entry and QA/ QC of data collected. Incumbent will be provided a monthly schedule as well as an electronic tablet for data entry. Work days include weekday and weekends with non-traditional hours. Ideal Candidate. Survey skills. Flexible and dependable, including weekends and non-traditional hours. Skills in collecting and recording data; maintaining accurate records. Saltwater fish identification skills; specifically reef fish species. Strong communication skills. Ability to work independently Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in wildlife or fisheries management, research or conservation; forestry; land management; agriculture; commercial fishery; environmental science; or operation of heavy mobile equipment; OR - Sixty semester hours with twelve hours in a biological, marine or environmental science, wildlife or fisheries management or research, agriculture, commercial fishery or forestry; ORA bachelor’s degree in a biological, marine or environmental science, wildlife or fisheries management or research, agriculture, commercial fishery or forestry. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties:Essential Duties:Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:Conducts pre-saltwater fishing trip surveys for the “dis. CARD” project. Hands out physical cards to vessels after being surveyed. Instructs anglers on vessel on how to complete the card and how to electronically upload data after the trip. Enters collected data on electronic tablet. Position-Specific Details:Appointment Type: Probational Appointment, Job Appointment, Detail to Special Duty, Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency wide permanent status employees) Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group. Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
