Reviews septic system applications. Independently drafts and issues septic system permits. Reviews OSTDS inspections submitted by private provider inspectors. Conducts inspections of septic systems and Aerobic Treatment Units. Uses bucket auger to dig 6-foot holes and profiles soil for color and texture. Conducts site evaluations for septic system suitability. Responsible for all data entry of all inspections and other work completed. Operates 4-wheel drive vehicles. Uses laser level, probe, measuring tape, lid puller, scaled ruler, and other tools. Enforces septic system regulations. Conducts field inspections of regulated facilities. Participates in public education (individually, group setting, and phone calls). Attends training sessions, seminars, and meetings to obtain education on all environmental health regulations related to public health that are under the jurisdiction of the department. Investigates sanitary nuisance complaints. Protects Public Health. Issues enforcement action for non-compliant Aerobic Treatment Units Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours or 40 quarter hours of class work in public health, environmental health, environmental science, or a physical or biological science is required. Qualifications: Minimum – Have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours or 40 quarter hours of class work in public health, environmental health, environmental science, or a physical or biological science. Required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Must be proficient in computers, laptops, and Microsoft and other computer programs.
