The Graduate Assistant for Academic Care and Resilience will provide essential support for the implementation of a comprehensive two-tiered student success initiative designed to enhance retention and persistence for first-generation, at-risk, and disconnected learners. This position assists the Academic Care and Resilience Advocate in executing Pre-Care (pre-college success coaching) and Preventive-Care (structured resiliency support) programs. The Graduate Assistant will support student outreach, data tracking, communication coordination, and program logistics while gaining valuable professional experience in student success initiatives and higher education administration. Other Requirements for the Position Supervision Works under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director with functional oversight from the Academic Care and Resilience Advocate. Receives regular training, guidance, and feedback on assigned tasks and professional development opportunities related to student success work in higher education. Primary Responsibilities Student Support and Outreach Conduct outreach to program participants (first-generation students, at-risk students, and stop-outs) through multiple communication channels Coordinate program logistics including enrollment tracking, appointment scheduling, and student communications Prepare and distribute program materials, resources, and appointment reminders Track and monitor student engagement, participation, and completion rates across all program activities Follow up with non-responsive students and attend campus engagement events as needed Communication and Coordination Respond to student inquiries about program services and coordinate communication between students and the Academic Care and Resilience Advocate Send regular program updates, reminders, and resource information to participating students Monitor and respond to academic alerts, coordinating appropriate interventions and support services Disseminate information about campus resources and support services to program participants Program Development and Administrative Support Create and maintain program materials including handouts, presentations, email templates, communication scripts, and digital resources Organize and maintain resource libraries, program calendars, scheduling systems, and filing systems Assist with planning and logistics for program workshops, orientations, information sessions, and events Support preparation of progress reports, grant reporting materials, and evaluation activities with external evaluator Document best practices, procedures, and student success stories for program evaluation and implementation guide Contribute ideas for program improvement based on student feedback and observations Perform other related duties as assigned by the Academic Care and Resilience Advocate Minimum Qualifications Required Must be currently enrolled as a graduate student at Sam Houston State University Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student information appropriately Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally with diverse student populations Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to 20 hours per week Positive attitude and genuine interest in supporting student success Preferred Graduate student in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Education, Social Work, or related field Previous experience working with first-generation or at-risk college students Experience with student success platforms (EAB Navigate or similar systems) Understanding of challenges facing first-generation and socioeconomically disadvantaged students Experience in academic advising, tutoring, mentoring, or student support services Experience with data entry, tracking systems, or database management Knowledge of FERPA regulations and student privacy requirements Open Date 04/29/2026 Position Number Contact Information Contact Name & Title Iris Martinez, Assistant Director Contact Phone 9362943947 Contact Email mxi 004@shsu.edu Contact Building & Room # Contact Fax Contact Instructions Summary
