Georgetown Law’s Center for Innovations in Community Safety (CICS) uses individual interventions and systems-level change to transform and end overreliance on policing and works to mitigate the devastating impacts of racial and ethnic discrimination and economic inequality in the criminal legal system. CICS is involved in advocacy, research, and technical assistance in two major program areas: community safety initiatives and law enforcement initiatives. Its community safety initiatives involve projects supporting alternative first response, community violence intervention, and other non-police efforts to build safer communities. Its law enforcement initiatives involve training efforts like the Active Bystandership in Law Enforcement (ABLE) Project, police department monitoring, and other efforts to reduce law enforcement infringement on civil rights. The Administration and Communications Associate (ACA) will primarily work on supporting CICS operations and communications efforts on both its alternative response and law enforcement initiatives. The position is heavily administrative, responsible for managing and executing all of CICS’s operational and administrative processes. These processes include, but are not limited to: Building out and maintaining CICS’s internal operational systems. Managing and tracking invoices and contracts between CICS and its vendors and suppliers. Managing team-wide financial transactions including requisitions, travel, and expense reimbursements. Managing CICS financial reconciliation processes. Managing logistics related to CICS events, including trainings, convenings, and symposia. Managing the ABLE Project’s Salesforce account The ACA will also support CICS internal and external communications efforts. This work includes, but is not limited to:Creating and drafting newsletters to the CICS and ABLE listservs. Maintaining the CICS website. Managing the general CICS and ABLE team inboxes. Maintaining the CICS and ABLE social media presences. Supporting CICS’s media outreach efforts. Work Interactions This position reports to a Senior Program Associate. This position will interact with all of CICS staff as well as university officials including but not limited to the Centers and Institutes, Finance, IT, Office of Research Services, and HR teams. Work interactions will also include CICS contractors, research assistants, fellows, and students, as well as CICS partners such as ABLE-certified law enforcement agencies, community response programs, municipal policymakers, and community members. Requirements and Qualifications. An undergraduate degree (or equivalent experience) and demonstrated interest in criminal system reform, social work, psychology, or other related social justice fields. Should also have 2-4 years of experience in operations or communications. Extraordinary capacity for flexibility while maintaining attention to detail. Strong writing skills. Exemplary collaborative capacity. Ability to work independently on projects in a fast-paced and changing environment. Outstanding interpersonal communications skills amongst a diverse set of key stakeholders, including law enforcement officers and civil rights activists. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software applications. Salesforce, basic graphic design, and/or social media experience is a plus. A strong commitment to CICS’s mission. Some travel may be required. Work Mode Designation. This position has been designated as Hybrid 3 Days. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Such review may necessitate a change to a position’s mode of work designation.
