The Office of Research and Economic Development is currently seeking a Temporary Laboratory Animal Technician to join their team of professionals. Duties include:Has responsibility for day-to-day care and welfare of laboratory animals used in research including the care and maintenance of assigned conventional, specific pathogen free (SPF), and barrier reared laboratory animals. Animal facility environmental maintenance and sanitation. Maintenance of medical records of laboratory animals and inventories. Perform various tasks that include: cleaning cages, pens, trays and equipment; feeding and watering animals; handling and moving animals safely; administering medicines; checking the environment; monitoring the condition of animals; obtaining samples and measurements; collecting and recording data; ensuring animals are kept clean and comfortable; performing anesthesia, euthanasia and assisting with surgical procedures; breed animals. Able to follows established protocols and procedures and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations and guidelines concerning quality assurance and laboratory animal care and use; observes and implements policies, procedures and regulations to facilitate department operations that are consistent with legal and organizational guidelines; maintains policies and procedures meeting Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC) criteria and other regulatory Acts. The incumbent should be able to work weekends if required. Minimum Qualifications. High school diploma with three (3) years of experience or two (2) years of post-secondary education with one (1) year of experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Desired Qualifications 1 year of experience in an animal research setting. Job Category. Temporary. Temporary Disclosure.
