Power Plant Mechanic Apprentice/ Journey-Level - - This position could be hired as a journey-level position if the documentation, certificates, outlined training curriculum, and references can be provided to prove journey-level experience Please note: This position is part of a formal Power Plant Mechanic Apprenticeship administered by Colorado Springs Utilities. As such, the pay for this position will begin at $34.73/hr. and will progress throughout the duration of the apprenticeship based on the pay schedule below (subject to change). A person could be placed in an advanced step within the apprenticeship program based on their previous experience. While an Apprentice at Colorado Springs Utilities, you are not eligible to apply to any other positions at Colorado Springs Utilities. Step 1 Pay - $34.73/hr. Step 2 Pay - $36.78/hr. Step 3 Pay - $38.82/hr. Step 4 Pay - $40.86/hr. Step 5 Pay - $42.91/hr. Step 6 Pay - $44.95/hr. Step 7 Pay- $46.99/hr. Step 8 Pay - $49.04/hr. Journey-Level Turnout - $51.08/hr. Starting pay rate for a Power Plant Mechanic Specialist is $48.64/hr. Your pay will increase to $51.08/hr. upon successfully completing probation (typically 6 months). In order to be hired as a journeyman, candidates must possess an official DOL Powerplant Mechanic Specialist certificate. - You may be required to rotate to other Energy Supply Power Plants. What to look forward to:Performing major overhauls and repairs on heat recovery steam generators, boilers, gas turbines, steam turbines, pumps, cooling towers, air-cooled condensers, and other major equipment. Troubleshooting and repair of power plant systems and equipment. Performing inspections- there will be lots involved in this sector… including repair on plant systems and equipment (high-pressure steam piping/ high-pressure gas piping), valves, heat exchangers, water treatment equipment, fans, and gearboxes. Operation of hydraulic and pneumatic torquing tools… and remember- safety is our NUMBER ONE priority Responding to mechanical and welding emergencies…we need someone who is flexible and can be shifted in work as need be. Predictive maintenance practices, including vibration analysis, thermal imaging, and ultrasound. Use of precision measuring equipment such as dial indicators, OD and ID micrometers, and dial calipers. Reading blueprints, as well as piping and instrument diagrams. Qualifications we seek:A high school diploma or a GED is required. Completion of a certified Department of Labor apprenticeship in Power Plant Maintenance is highly valued. Experience working in an Electric Generation Power Plant environment is highly valued. Experience with rigging and crane work is preferred. What does this position require physically (working conditions)? A lot of balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping… tons of repetitive motions that you must be able to do! Moving mechanical parts and electrical currents often come. You may be subjected to vibrations, fumes, odors, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, and intense noises. Note that there is some very heavy work involved- exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
