This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Grounds Management Division of the Parks and Recreation Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. An employee in this classification may work alone, as a crew member, or perform as a temporary lead worker to complete the assigned tasks. The primary responsibility of the Parks Trades and Grounds Worker II is to perform journey-level carpentry, masonry/concrete finishing, painting, or welding duties. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Performing journey-level carpentry, masonry/concrete finishing, painting, or welding. Performing chemical spraying of vegetation. Performing a range of tasks using equipment such as Interstate or boom mowers, slope mowers, boom sprayers, tractors with attachments, front-end loaders, skidders, backhoes, excavators, pickups, flatbeds, dump trucks, crack-filling machines, push mowers and lawn edgers. Assuming responsibility for following all safety and maintenance procedures relating to the proper operation and condition of assigned equipment. Assuming lead worker responsibilities, overseeing other employees, equipment, and ensuring the successful completion of projects. Completing daily work orders, safety reports, and other job-related documentation. Performing other duties as assigned. VETERANS PREFERENCE - Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. To receive preference, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge from the United States military service (Department of Defense Form DD 214 or NGB Form 22) prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Possession of a valid Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Chemical Applicator License (category 3 A). Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL). NOTE: Employees will be required to possess or obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver License within twelve (12) months as well as a valid Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Chemical Applicator License (category 3 A) within six (6) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining both licenses within specified time frames. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - GENERAL - Knowledge of and skill in using and operating various ground maintenance tools and equipment. Knowledge of and skill in following safe working procedures and practices. Knowledge of and skill in one or more of the required skills trades of a Park Trades and Grounds Worker II. Skill in maintaining schedule demands and project quality. Skill in making accurate measurements. Skill in reading and following sketches, drawings, or blueprints. Ability to estimate material and equipment needs. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform minor construction repairs such as concrete patching and replacement, wood repair, metal work, or repainting of different surface types. Ability to operate multiple types of construction equipment such as skid steers, front loaders, backhoes, excavators, or other similar equipment. Ability to work independently and with others. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - CARPENTRY - Knowledge of and skill in operating, adjusting, and maintaining power operated carpentry tools and equipment on site and in a shop setting. Knowledge of and skill in use of manually operated carpentry tools and equipment. Knowledge of standard carpentry materials and supplies. Skill in planning and completing carpentry projects. Skill in repair of damaged picnic tables, park benches, signs, fences, etc. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - MASONRY - Knowledge of and ability to follow procedures necessary to properly pour concrete. Knowledge of and skill in following procedures for finishing concrete surfaces. Knowledge of masonry materials and skill in using masonry tools. Skill in determining proper mix and consistency of concrete.
